The Foundations in Hospitality program is an occupational skills training with a focus in the ever-growing Hospitality industry. The objective of the program is to foster, mentor and train Indigenous Youth who face barriers to employment but have a desire to gain and maintain meaningful employment in the Hospitality sector.

The Opportunity*

Ballad is seeking a HOSPITALITY FACILITATOR who will play a key role within Ballad’s Hospitality training program. This key position will be responsible for facilitating all aspects of the AHLEI (American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute) hospitality training. The Facilitator will deliver presentations, program plan, and coordinate activities to meet the ever-changing needs of individual learners.

The successful candidate will be an advocate for inclusion and diversity. They will create meaningful relationships with program participants and other stakeholders to provide an enriching classroom experience. In addition to instruction, the HOSPITALITY FACILITATOR will be responsible for setting up facility tours and guest speakers. This individual will work closely with the other program staff and the program participants to identify opportunities and to resolve concerns.
This position works closely with the Program Coordinator and reports to the Manager of Training.

This position is full time and will begin October 2021 with an expected end date of Fall 2022 with the possibility of extension.

Key Responsibilities

Facilitation_*

  • Delivers lesson plans which meet AHLEI curriculum models
  • Possesses and continually develops working knowledge of Hospitality, AHLEI programmes and frameworks, and teaching methods
  • Assesses and records student development, while identifying problem areas and areas which need attention and improvement

Support Work

  • Assist the Program Coordinator in organizing and monitoring work placements.
  • Assist with student/industry liaison, including activities which will promote job placement and student enrollment.
  • Maintain liaison with the community, related industry/agencies and other professionals.
  • Counsel students with respect to academic progress and assist them in obtaining appropriate counseling for non-academic matters.

Experience*

A professional with proven experience collaborating with diverse individuals and groups, building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and providing practical guidance on project design, execution, and follow-up.

The position requires the following skills, experiences, and abilities:

  • Formal Education in Hospitality, Education and/or Adult Learning or on-the-job experience equivalent is required
  • Two or more years’ experience of leading a team and formal training in leading groups to success an asset
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship building and conflict resolution skills.

Exceptional organization, time management, and prioritization skills

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation is commensurate upon experience. Full competitive benefits provided upon successful completion of three-month probationary period.
