Lodge Overview: Skwachàys (pronounced skwatch-eyes) Lodge is a social enterprise in Vancouver, that combines exceptional hospitality amongst 18 one-of-a-kind indigenous themed guest rooms with a street-level Indigenous Fair Trade Gallery. Operated by Vancouver Native Housing Society (VNHS), a non-profit organization focused on providing housing for low-income Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in Vancouver, we are proud to be Canada’s First Indigenous Arts and Culture Hotel and host our renowned Artist in Residence Program.

WHO ARE YOU?Skwachays Lodge is looking for Guest Service Agents to work in our indigenous boutique lodge. The position encompasses all aspects of a lodge guest service. We pride ourselves in having outgoing, enthusiastic, and personable employees who go the extra mile to make our guests happy, as our reviews so aptly demonstrate.

Job Description: The Guest Service Agent reports to the Lodge and Gallery Manager, with responsibilities and job duties included below. You bring a pleasant and professional disposition with guests and Lodge staff, are flexible, communicative, and respectful. It will be an asset to have knowledge of indigenous culture and art. The successful candidate will generally be responsible for welcoming guests, managing online and telephone bookings, verifying guest’s payment methods during check-in, responding to guest questions and requests and for the effective, correct operating of the Lodge front desk property management system (RoomKey).

You will have responsibilities such as:

  • Have a genuine desire, ability and delivery of exceptional guest services at all times.
  • Receives and manages reservations made online (through internet bookings or emails) and by telephone and prepares upcoming check-in packages.
  • Greets and checks guests in and out, in compliance for check-in procedure
  • Maintains all information in the Lodge RoomKeyPMS current and accurate.
  • Organizes transport services for guests at their request.
  • Provides guests with information about the hotel, gallery and local area.
  • Keeps abreast of attractions and services that may be of interest to guests.
  • Reports to Lodge and Gallery Manager any guest complaints or security issues.
  • Maintains housekeeping knowledge and communicates with housekeeping staff for check-ins, check outs, unexpected stayovers, and departures.
  • Maintains knowledge and effective use of Outlook email system.
  • Consistent, appropriate, and accurate communications a must, in answering emails and phone calls.
  • Supports and facilitates gallery services as required.
  • Serves as a host at Lodge site conferences or events and ensuring that all relevant preparations are made for the event.
  • Follow all VNHS and Skwachàys policies, procedures, and service standards.

To be the best fit for this position you will need:

  • Education required – completion of secondary school diploma.
  • Previous hospitality experience required (at least one year).
  • Retail sales and knowledge of indigenous culture and art would be an asset.
  • Good communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated applicable skills in guest relations, time management, handling multiple priorities under pressure and team participation.
  • Ability to work weekdays, weekends and holidays and various shifts.
  • RoomKeyPMS or related Property Management Systems (PMS) knowledge for front desk operations
  • Professional appearance, etiquette and flexibility are required.
  • The confidentiality, respect, security, and privacy of lodge guests maintained.
  • B Safe from go2HR and Serving it Right (SIR) certification are assets
