Proudly rooted on Canada’s East Coast, Scotia Recycling Limited is the leading recycling company in Atlantic Canada with eleven centers across Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador providing customers across Atlantic Canada and beyond with a one-stop-shop to solve their recyclable material needs. Scotia Recycling currently collects, bales, and delivers over 150,000 tonnes of secondary fibre and plastics annually. Preferably based in Dartmouth, NS and reporting to the President of Scotia Recycling, the General Manager Operations, Maritimes will provide overall leadership and management of the organization’s existing operations and play a key role in the expansion of services from planning through to execution. As the General Manager, you have a deep understanding of shipping and receiving operations and are a proven leader with significant operational and logistics experience.

Your key mandate is to:

  • Support strategic goals by proactively managing all day-to-day logistic operations at multiple facilities while providing leadership that increases productivity, adds capacity, streamlines processes and develops talent;
  • Identify priorities for each facility and consistently monitor and analyze operational performance metrics to identify opportunities for continuous improvement, automation of processes, innovation, capacity utilization and cost containment;
  • Continue to expand as the opportunities for growth evolve while helping your team adapt as new technology, equipment and clients are added to the organization;
  • Demonstrate visible leadership and active people management through the development and mentoring of a cohesive team to ensure the goals and objectives of the company are achieved;
  • Cultivate strategic relationships with customers by identifying any potential barriers and working to deliver solutions which positively impact the overall value provided to customers;
  • Play a lead role in ensuring Scotia Recycling is regarded as an industry-leading “green” partner for its clients and achieve the operational and financial goals set by the ownership group;
  • Maintain a commitment to Scotia Recycling’s mission, values and corporate and environmental objectives.

As the ideal candidate, you:

  • Are a highly skilled leader with a successful track record of implementing practical solutions to increase operational effectiveness and ensure continuous improvement, likely within a manufacturing or industrial processing setting. Knowledge in process automation is essential;
  • Are a hands-on leader highly proficient in managing diverse teams at multiple sites.
  • Have exceptional organizational and project management skills and can effectively manage, adapt and flex to frequent changes and identify and resolve inefficiencies;
  • Have a get-it-done attitude, and are comfortable working at both strategic and tactical levels;
  • Have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and can build strong working relationships with all types of stakeholders internal and external to your organization.
