BCIT’s School of Energy is seeking a regular, full-time (1.0 FTE ) Faculty, Electrical Engineering and Technology,to deliver lectures and laboratory activities, develop course material, evaluate student progress, supervise student projects, and support the day-to-day operations of the department. BCIT is a leader in hands-on practical education. We are looking for an individual passionate about learning and teaching to join our team. BCIT’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Technology offers bachelor and master degrees in electrical engineering as well as diplomas in electrical engineering technology with options in electrical power and industrial control, telecommunications and networking, and automation and instrumentation. As a valued member of our team of respected faculty with extensive industry experience and knowledge, you, as the ideal candidate, will bring practical skills to the classroom, inspiring and guiding future engineers and technologists.

Duties & Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in subject areas related to electrical engineering and technology. As a passionate educator, they will leverage their expertise to engage and challenge students, fostering a collaborative and inclusive learning environment.
Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible to meet the course learning objectives, design course material, create a positive learning environment for students, participate in department activities, engage with team members, support continuous improvement initiatives within the department, and other duties as specified in the collective agreement.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS :

Candidates must have a solid foundation in electrical power systems with hands-on practical experience in testing, installation, commissioning, operation, or maintenance. A solid foundation in one or more of the following areas is also required:
  • Electrical equipment (e.g. motors, generators, transformers, protection systems);
  • Distribution engineering (design, operation, protection, and control);
  • Renewable energy (solar, wind, micro-hydro);
  • Power systems analysis and design (e.g. fault calculations, power flow analysis and system stability studies);
  • Microgrid (design, operation, communication, protection, and control), or
  • Industrial customer applications engineering (motor control centres, customer distribution equipment, and power quality).

In addition, experience in the following areas will be considered an asset:
  • Industry standards, the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), and lighting design;
  • Protection of electrical systems;
  • Data and signal acquisition, and analysis;
  • Programmable logic controllers and variable frequency drives;
  • Industrial network communication;
  • Engineering software (e.g. Cymedist, EMTP, ETAP, ASPEN, PSCAD, SKM, SolidWorks, AutoCAD), and
  • Electronics test instruments and tools (signal generators, oscilloscopes, 3D printers, soldering irons, etc.).

Additional Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Minimum five years of relevant industry experience;
  • Registration (or eligibility to register) as a Professional Engineer (PEng) is preferred;
  • Post-secondary teaching experience is preferred;
  • Effective command of the English language – both written and oral;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in teams, and independently, and
  • Demonstrated exceptional presentation, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.

Salary Range: $56,845 - $99,571 per annum.

Additional Salary Information
Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
