Kamloops Truss is expanding our design team and needs experienced professional Truss Designers to accurately design trusses for custom single-family, multi-family, farm, and commercial projects. Our Truss Designer will report to the Design Manager and be accountable for roof truss plans, preparing truss layouts, truss design drawings, and truss quotes. The Truss Designer will also assist in reviewing design work and feasibility analysis of construction plans relative to truss-related matters. This role includes a strong front-line customer service component, and we are looking for someone who can meet or exceed the client’s needs.

Responsibilities

· Determine design specifications based on blueprints, structural designs needs;

  • Communicates with sales, design and production teams, customers, and managers to ensure designs are accurate and timely throughout the process;

· Design and produce roof truss engineered systems, plans, layouts, truss design drawings based on client requirements and plans;

  • Complete and finalizes designs for production and assembly
  • Provide truss quotes using your ability to understand blueprints and customer requirements for specific projects;
  • Consult with more experienced colleagues and management when more in-depth analysis is required;
  • Consistently deliver high quality, cost-effective designs to both our internal and external customers by leading and directing efforts to value engineering roof systems;
  • Optimize designs for the greatest effectiveness and minimal waste, ensuring design standards are met;
  • Review project design and drive accurate, timely releases to production and logistics.
  • Review and analyze specifications, blueprints, engineered drawings and related designs to determine factors affecting the design of trusses;
  • Provide technical direction for the development of placement plans and quality control procedures
  • Assist team in responding to questions, revisions and/or concerns from customers;
  • Plans, paces, and adjusts own work schedule and efficiency to meet changing company and customer demands
  • Other related duties as assigned

Experience/Education & Professional Qualifications:

  • 3+ years’ of drafting and design experience with rough framing within the construction and/or manufacturing industry
  • 3+ years’ experience with MiTek Structure, and/or equivalent truss design software;
  • Expertise in the application and design of building components and connections of roof and roof truss systems, tall walls and other engineered wood products;
  • Expert blueprint reading skills (architecture, structural and mechanical);
  • Knowledge of standard construction practices, national /BCBC building codes, structural engineering, and carpentry.
  • Ability to quickly learn and adopt local building practices/styles/procedures
  • Experience in the production of shop ready cutting, layouts and engineering;
  • Experience with product costing; and MiTek – Management Software
  • Strong Microsoft Office computer skills
  • Understanding of manufacturing and logistics operations;
  • Post-secondary education or technical training courses in Architecture, Engineering or Drafting.

Work Environment / Physical Activity:

  • Work in a professional office setting within our two office facilities located in Kamloops, BC
  • Potential availability to work remotely in compliance with Kamloops Truss’ software and ergonomic policies.
  • Occasional travel to site to meet with client and Kamloops Truss team.
