The Specialized Driver works in a two person crew responsible for the operation of Cando’s boom trucks, working for the Infrastructure Renewal Department. The Specialized Driver ensures safety is a high priority at all times and procedures are respected and followed as per CROR and COR regulations. The rate of pay ranges from $28.00 to $32.00 depending on experience.

Roles And Responsibilities

• Operates Highway Tractor on all Provincial and Municipal Roads following all applicable legislation in the jurisdiction.
• Understands and learns how to load specific equipment and material per Cando’s Trucking manual.
• Builds relationships with the customer; interfaces with the customer via phone, radio, or in person
• Maintains production quotas set by the customer and Management
• Loads the equipment and secures for transport
• Purchases supplies necessary to maintain the equipment and the safety environment
• Maintains necessary journals or maintenance documents as required by the Department; completes daily paperwork such as car loading, billing information, PO’s, and transmission of all daily activities as pertinent to track daily costing
• Trains and mentors other employees on the operation and maintenance requirements of the picker truck
• Guides employees in the safe operations of equipment and the rules and regulations required to perform the operations of the Department
  
  

Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities

• Holds and obtains a valid driver’s license; holds a Class 1 driver’s license; clean Driver’s Abstract (last three years)
• Ability to operate safely many different types of Trailers. Low Boy, Flat Decks, Super B’s, End Dumps
• Willingness to learn and operate log cranes for self Loading
• Ability to use many types of Equipment for the purpose of loading trailers
• Demonstrated team building skills including interpersonal, communication, and problem solving as well as show strong leadership skills
• Be able to demonstrate the ability to be safe on track and to comprehend oral direction
• Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly up to 100lbs
• Ability to understand, record, and apply oral and written instructions; document work activities, and prepare required reports or work orders
• Mechanical ability is preferred, with the capability of performing troubleshooting and maintenance in the field
• A base knowledge of costing and computers is an asset
• Willingness to adapt to new technological changes and improvements and participate in training and self-development programs
• Ability to travel for extended periods of time (typically 10 days on, 4 days off) away from the home base of Brandon; work in remote locations in all weather conditions
  
  

Education & Experience

• Minimum Two years operating a Highway Tractor required
• Possess or able to secure CROR, eRailsafe, and First Aid/CPR certifications
