Position Summary
Under the leadership of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Director of Philanthropy and Community Relations is an exceptional fundraiser and stakeholder relations specialist. The incumbent will have a proven track record of developing and sustaining strategic relationships that assist in advancing the agency’s mandate, generate revenue to strategic initiatives and create ambassadors in the community.

Responsibilities

Fundraising and Funder Relations Strategy:

  • Under the leadership of the CEO, and in collaboration with the Board and other members of staff, develop and implement long-range and annual fundraising plans in support of carya’s vision and goals.
  • Grow and manage a comprehensive development program including major gifts, planned and annual giving, and corporate sponsorships
  • Achieve annual and campaign fundraising targets, while recognizing that achievement of financial targets is not the only measurement of success for a fundraiser
  • Build and cultivate relationships with grantors and partner with program staff to write and submit funding proposals.
  • Direct annual mail appeals

Marketing and Communications Strategy:

  • Develop engagement strategies that grow the carya case for support and grow ambassadorship across internal and external stakeholders (including staff, board, government, current and prospective funders, partner organizations, volunteers)
  • Enhance the marketing and public relations strategies to grow reach to key stakeholders
  • Ensure consistent brand positioning and advance carya’s reputation and awareness in the community

Leadership and Management:

  • Coach and mentor the fundraising and communications team members
  • Provide direction and leadership to direct reports
  • Support the Executive Leadership Team in setting the strategic direction of the organization

Carya Culture and Engagement:

  • Provide leadership that represents carya in all relationships in a manner consistent with carya core values, vision and mission to support a culture of collaboration, learning, innovation, excellence and stewardship
  • Encourage and cultivate internal and external networks as a cornerstone of growth and change

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A university degree in a related field with 10 plus years’ fundraising experience. Experience in a non-profit setting is preferred
  • Membership in the Association for Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and the CFRE designation preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and evaluating a comprehensive fund development program that includes annual giving, monthly giving, events, digital fundraising, major and planned gifts
  • Experience in communications and media relations is required
  • Past experience in leading comprehensive fundraising, marketing and communications programs
  • Direct experience in annual giving, planned giving, donor stewardship and volunteer engagement
  • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining long-term relationships with donors, foundations, grantors and volunteers
  • Team leadership experience in a dynamic and complex non-profit environment
  • Exceptional organization strategic planning and project management skills
  • Demonstrated success in leading and coaching staff members
  • Strong interpersonal skills and decision-making capabilities
  • Successful completion of all security clearances will be required

Technical Skills:
Advanced skills in business applications (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and experience with data base management systems is required. Experience with all aspects of social media, including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Zoom and Microsoft Teams is expected.

Full Time Regular (37.5 hours per week)
$90,000 - $100,000
