We’re growing!! And looking for a passionate, driven and enthusiastic candidate to join our team for the position of Director of Construction. This role will provide expertise for the full range of activities required to successfully manage complex multi-residential, retail, and commercial developments and is located at our Head Office in Guelph, Ontario.

Job Description

As the Director of Construction, you will manage multiple projects while driving and motivating your team to success in managing all aspects of the project during construction to completion and turn over to tenants. This position oversees a team responsible for the planning and implementation of the new development program ensuring schedule and budget management as well as completing quality assurance. This position will work with the development team and external consultants to create detailed construction plans and specifications and works with contractors to complete projects through turnover to Tenants. This position is also responsible for the Owner’s Outline Specification, identifying and analyzing cost saving and process improvement opportunities. If you are a confident and knowledgeable leader, well versed in Mid and High-rise construction and know you are capable of managing multiple complex projects; have exceptional business acumen, then you will be very successful in this role.

What we look for:

  • Fundamental understanding of the real estate development /construction industry and an appreciation of investment performance fundamentals.
  • Proven technical skills in architectural/engineering design
  • Experience in financial analysis; project cost control and critical path scheduling.
  • Familiar with relevant regulatory requirements (including municipal approval processes, building codes, safety standards, fire safety standards and environmental regulations).
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and adapt to changing conditions and tight deadlines while maintaining strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Training and awareness in matters of accessibility and designated substances is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, understand, and apply standard documents affecting real estate projects (including contracts, project charters, surveys, construction, and other technical drawings)
  • Work independently as well as with a team.
  • Be proactive with good problem-solving skills, judgment and innovation.
  • Work a flexible schedule and travel.

Experience and Education:

  • Seven to ten years’ experience in real estate development and construction management, preferably in multi-residential or mixed-use mid-rise projects.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in a Sr. Project Manager role, overseeing a team of construction professionals.
  • A valid driver’s license required.
