About the MNjcc:

The Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre is a dynamic hub in downtown Toronto. It provides opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to be active, learn, connect and participate in a wide range of cultural experiences. Rooted in Jewish values, the MNjcc is open to all.

Founded on this site in 1953 the MNjcc is home to a state of the art Fitness Centre, the Al Green Theatre, four schools, four choirs, a wide range of arts and cultural activities, Jewish Life programming, and a robust Active 55+ program.

Short Description of the Position:

To ensure that the After School Program, Camps and School’s Out programs are enrolled, staffed and programmed in a fashion that the children will have the best and safest possible experience.

37.5 hours per week, Available to work a variety of shifts between 8 am and 6 pm.

DURING PERIOD WHERE COVID19 POLICIES ARE IN AFFECT:

  • Staff may be designated to stay with ill children in isolation room until parents or caregivers come for their child.
  • Staff will be equipped with masks, visors, gloves and a smock to ensure the health and safety of the staff.
  • Staff will disinfect any surfaces touched by child in isolation room immediately after child leaving.
  • Staff will disinfect bathroom surfaces (sink and toilet) after it has been used by a child.
  • Staff schedules will fluctuate during this period. Regular work hours may not apply.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Working together with the Manager of Camps:

  • Ensuring that the After School program and Camps are being run in a manner that is acceptable to the MNjcc’s policies and guidelines
  • Ensuring that all programs developed and implemented are age appropriate, safe and stimulating for the children and that they follow all Ministry of Education guidelines
  • Ensuring that all programs are staffed according to MNjcc guidelines (non-licensed programs) and Ministry of Education guidelines (for all licensed programs)
  • Working with Director of Marketing to ensure that the public is adequately aware of the programs
  • Booking rooms for all programs throughout the year; ensuring that programs are all entered properly in our CRM software (Amilia)
  • Introducing and touring parents to After School facilities, Camp facilities and building facilities
  • Attending necessary building meetings
  • Maintaining all necessary children’s documents
  • On-going purchasing of supplies
  • Ensuring that foods catered to children are satisfactory
  • Coordinate special events and field trips (where applicable)
  • Preparing of all mandatory packages, allergy lists and ensuring that they are up to date
  • Carry out necessary drills (fire and lock down)
  • Supervising children and maintaining a clean and safe environment for children at all times while inside the MNjcc or away from the building.
  • Building relationships with families of the MNjcc
  • Communicating with parents / guardians about any issues and concerns of children in our programs
  • Coordinating with other programmers within the building – swim, Suzuki, athletics, etc.
  • Assisting Manager of Camps with daily After School responsibilities
  • Being the go-to person for the After School program and Camps in the event that the Manager of Camps is absent or unable to attend to an issue
  • Maintaining a positive attitude whatever the situation
  • Join the children in swim if needed
  • Filling in for staff in the event that a supply cannot be found
  • Filling in for ECE staff in the event that a supply teacher
  • Staff Supervision/Management Responsibilities: (together with Manager of Camps):
  • In charge of all After School and camp staff.
  • Acquire supply staff when necessary to adhere to ratio guidelines
  • Hiring of new staff when necessary
  • Training of new and current staff
  • Be a positive role model for the staff and volunteers
  • Meet with staff on on-going basis to discuss all areas of the After School program and Camp
  • Assist in completing annual staff evaluations
  • Interaction with Members and Public: It is important to be available to speak with members and public at any given time. It is the Coordinator’s responsibility to be courteous and helpful to the visitors in the building.
  • Physical Demands:
  • The Coordinator must be able to lift children when necessary. Lifting of boxes and moving of small furniture may also be necessary.
  • Soiled clothing may need to be changed at times. Gloves will be provided for this.

Administrative:

  • Inputting all children’s required forms and staff forms into data system
  • Ensuring that all forms are up to date and maintained in an orderly fashion
  • Informing department heads when forms are missing
  • Laminating, photocopying, along with other administrative projects that are given by Manager of Camps

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience working with children.
  • Must have a valid First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Must have a current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Screening Check.
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Up to date immunization record (tetanus, TB Screening)
  • Must have an outgoing personality and work well with children
  • Able to communicate easily with parents

Salary and Benefits:

  • Annual Salary Range: $35,000 - $40,000
