Opportunity

MacEwan University is seeking a full-time continuing Communications Specialist in the Office of the Provost & Vice-President, Academic. The Communications Specialist will gather and prepare a variety of verbal and written communications, with duties that include, but are not limited to:

  • designing and preparing digital media projects;
  • preparing speaking notes, scripts, and messages for internal and external audiences;
  • engaging stakeholders across Academic Affairs as well as the wider institution/community to develop communications for a variety of audiences; and,
  • developing and implementing focused communications plans to highlight and build relationships within the University community.

SKILLS

The successful incumbent will possess:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including SharePoint and Teams;
  • Experience with writing communications and creating promotional materials;
  • Excellent reporting skills, including verbal and written communications;
  • Active listening and elicitation skills;
  • Excellent grammar and writing, with knowledge of style guides;
  • Attention to detail and ability to work with a high level of accuracy;
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research, compile reports, and interpret data;
  • Demonstrated ability to write swiftly and fluently for a variety of audiences and communications platforms;
  • Strong organization, time management and prioritization, with the ability to plan and coordinate multiple work initiatives effectively and within set timelines and prioritize these demands with a high degree of independence;
  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage stakeholders and work effectively in a team environment; and,
  • Experience designing content/content creation for digital platforms.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, or a related discipline is required.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant work experience with public relations and communications projects in a professional organization is required.
  • Knowledge of the post-secondary sector and environment would be beneficial.
  • Equivalences may be considered.
