We are a healthcare data platform that is used by developers and companies around the world to build cutting-edge medical applications. We work with app developers to build patient apps, with vendors to add modern interoperability to their platforms, and with governments and hospitals to help them to manage their data. Cloud Hosting Services at Smile CDR is a remote team and we are looking for a full-time remote employee in Canada who can perform well given a high level of independence and autonomy.

About the role:
Cloud Hosting Services is an exciting team delivering Smile CDR products as fully-managed cloud services. We work across the company, and with multiple cloud partners, to make Smile CDR products simple for our customers. We’re a small, but rapidly growing team, making a huge impact. As part of the Cloud Hosting Services team, the Cloud Architect is responsible for driving the cloud centric architecture approach for our managed services offering while maintaining security best practices and improving operational efficiencies. The Cloud Architect works collaboratively with various stakeholders including Solution and Software Architects, Security, Product Management and Operations peers on the technical aspects of aligning, designing, implementing, testing, deploying, securing and automating infrastructure services to deliver SaaS-based solutions on Azure/AWS. The Cloud Architect will establish the architecture review board and will participate in building and documenting standardized infrastructure patterns and best practices.

What you’ll do:

  • Develop, implement and manage a multi-tenant Cloud strategy for our Managed Services offering.
  • Develop cloud reference architectures for various deployment topologies.
  • Document architectural guiding principles and standardize specifications for the managed services offering.
  • Assess, design, implement, automate, and document security solutions and processes to meet compliance requirements.
  • Partner with our Security Operations teams to help define and implement best practices around Cloud security.
  • Work with key stakeholders to develop baseline cloud, container, and application security standards.
  • Develop cost/utilization tracking and attribution processes for all Cloud Service Providers.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for cloud security systems and procedures.
  • Drive proof of concepts and proof of technology research while evaluating, selecting, and integrating best-of-breed/innovative technologies.
  • Generate detailed documentation including conceptual design, logical design, physical design, bill of materials, as-built diagrams, knowledge transfer materials, FAQs, and transition to operations needs.
  • Work as a subject matter expert to deliver projects from initiation to successful implementation.
  • Lead C-Level / Executive briefing presentations, covering roadmap direction, technology consideration and fit with client needs in the context of business and IT objectives.
  • Evangelize Cloud technology vision and strategy, solutions and best practices with senior management and other groups within the company.
  • Provide multi-cloud thought leadership.
  • Collaborate with the Operations team to remove technical roadblocks and provide guiding principles for operational efficiency.
  • Act as trusted advisor, with exceptional technical vision, knowledge and judgment in the multi-cloud, hybrid-IT space.

What we are looking for

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Solutions Architect and securing cloud solutions (IaaS/PaaS/SaaS).
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in identifying security issues, risks, and developing risk mitigation plans to meet audit requirements.
  • Good understanding of cloud security threats.
  • Deep experience with hyperscalers (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.), interconnect/colo players (e.g. ThinkON).
  • Solid experience with application architectures and effective understanding on how to move and/or refactor in the cloud.
  • Experience communicating complex technical product and service architectures and their market potential at both the C-suite level and the deep technical expert level.
  • Deep understanding of cloud best practices and formal certification in one of the big 3 cloud technologies. ( Azure Security Certification).
  • Extensive experience in securing operating systems, firewalls, networks, systems, databases and application architectures.
  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks along with their best practices and their impact on design considerations (HIPAA, ISO, HITRUST, etc.).
  • Experience with antivirus, IDS/IPS, WAFs, NSG, Express route, Application Firewalls.
  • Proficient in networking and security.
  • Advanced expertise of common cloud services (Databases, Containers, Compute, Storage, Serverless etc.).
  • Experience in performance management of database engines (MySQL, MSSQL, Postgres, DynamoDB, MongoDB, ElasticSearch).
  • Experience working with Identity protocols (PIM, OAuth/OpenID).
  • Experience working with Threat modelling.
  • Experience with data centers architecture with a strong knowledge of components such as, routing (protocols – ISIS, OSPF, BGP, PIM, MPLS, SND/Openflow) switching (technologies – TRILL, LACP, STP) , firewall, IPS, Server & server virtualizations (VMware, KVM, storage (Fiber Channel, ISCSI, NFS), Internet connectivity and IT business drivers.
  • You are highly responsive and have a customer-first mindset.
  • Good written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Highly self-motivated and detailed oriented with ability to prioritize and track multiple projects in parallel.
  • Team-oriented and skilled in working within a collaborative environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, systems engineering or another IT-related program.
