Job Summary

Do you take initiative and work well in a team and independently? The Justice, Health, and Revenue Group (2022 Top Work Unit Award) seeks a Legal Assistant to join the Insolvency and Collections team.

The Justice, Health and Revenue Group (JHR) Subgroup B is seeking applicants for the role of Legal Assistant to work with the Insolvency and Collections team under the supervision of the Legal Office Manager. The successful applicant will be responsible for managing Supreme Court petitions and applications under the Court Order Enforcement Act, which will include filing and serving, working with process servers, correspondence with the client (Ministry of Finance) and opposing parties, and compiling records and material for hearings. They will also work with other staff providing support to the lawyers and paralegals who work on insolvency, collection, and foreclosure matters.

Job Requirements

  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent.
  • Enrollment in, or completion of, a Legal Office Administrative Assistant program from a recognized institution; OR,
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Equivalent education: Completion of an undergraduate degree
    • Equivalent experience: At least 6 months working in a legal office setting.
  • Experience with the use of Microsoft Suite and Adobe
  • Experience managing a high volume of files and balancing deadlines, independently and in a team.
Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:

  • Experience with Court Services Online (CSO) and BC Online.
  • Experience with Legal Files: Legal Case Management Software.
  • Experience with Personal Property Registry (PPR), Company Registry, or Land Title Office.

About This Position

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.

This position is excluded from union membership.

An eligibility list may be established to fill both current and/or future permanent vacancies.
