Climate and Energy Manager
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Climate and Energy manager to join our Environmental Sustainability team for up to 14 months (with the potential for extension of the term). Reporting to the Environmental Sustainability Manager, Environment Division, the Climate and Energy Manager is responsible for implementation of the City’s energy management and climate action program, goals and commitments as defined in the City’s Strategic Energy Management Plan, Environmental Sustainability Plan and Community Greenhouse Gas Reduction Strategy. The job requires managing, supporting and promoting projects and initiatives related to tracking, reducing, and reporting on energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for civic facilities and fleet, corporate infrastructure and operations, and the broader community. The job also requires establishing strong partnerships with a variety of key internal and external stakeholders including various City departments, partners (BC Hydro, Fortis BC, etc.), community groups, the business sector, and other levels of government.
Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Energy Management, Resource Management, Sustainability or related field with appropriate certifications and training related to the work (a valid professional designation in the Province of BC as a Professional Engineer, Registered Engineering Technologist or Certified Energy Manager would be considered an asset), and a minimum of five years of related experience that includes the following:
Technical knowledge to support building and infrastructure optimization and retrofit projects, with an emphasis on energy efficiency and GHG reduction
Sound experience in project management, business case development, budget management and contract management;
Sound knowledge of the principles, processes and practices related to local government corporate and community policy development, strategic planning and federal and provincial legislation;
Knowledge of current and emerging sustainability principles, such as, the BC Energy Step Code, renewable energy technologies, and climate change mitigation and resilience relevant to a municipal context;
Excellent interpersonal skills, including facilitation, collaboration, and relationship building;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; and
Demonstrated leadership and management skills.

The City offers a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package. Applicants under consideration will be required to undergo a police security clearance evaluation. This position is based in Coquitlam with some flexible, remote work options available. The City has a vaccination policy in effect with requirements for all current and future employees.
