JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties:
Financial Officer, the Chief Information Officer (CIO) is responsible for the vision, strategy,
planning, development, implementation, operation, security and maintenance of all information
technology and a number of operation technology systems across BC Hydro, as well as for the
development and implementation of policies and programs to strengthen cybersecurity and
compliance with Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards.
The CIO is accountable for the identification, mobilization and management of all resources and
business processes required to deliver strong business outcomes and ensure effective delivery of
technology functions on a day to day basis. The CIO is also assigned the role of CIP Senior
Manager for BC Hydro and is responsible for ensuring BC Hydro meets its Mandatory Reliability
Standards CIP Compliance responsibilities.
The CIO leads a large team of approximately 200 technology professions along with several
service providers to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of services to support the business
and BC Hydro’s customers.
- As a member of the Finance, Technology and Supply Chain Leadership Team, provides
range of IT initiatives and issues across BC Hydro.
- Works collaboratively with the Executive Team and business groups to execute a multi-year
prioritizing and optimizing investments, delivering outcomes early and often and leveraging future
technology.
- Oversees the architecture, design, development, operation and maintenance of all IT systems
telecommunications, end-point devices and cybersecurity, meeting 24/7 mission critical
technology services and ongoing and constantly changing needs of the business.
- Develops and delivers the Technology Strategy and 5 Year Plan as well as the Technology
- Oversees the cybersecurity framework, including policies, processes and controls, ensures
cybersecurity risks and ensures the right controls and tools are in place to mitigate cyber risk,
focuses BC Hydro on both the training and overall awareness of cybersecurity and is responsible
for managing and delivering our multi-year cybersecurity plan.
- Manages and sustains Enterprise Architecture and is responsible for advancing and delivering
latest SAP platform and retiring its Passport software.
- Collaborates with senior leaders across the company to build organizational capacity, structures
Infrastructure Protection standards applicable to cyber assets and systems
- Develops and manages internal and external relationships critical to successful technology
advisors, standards groups, IT communities and other utilities
- Oversees all Technology-related expenditures including: budgeting, planning, contracting, and
- Develops and implements business continuity, disaster recovery and information security
- Selects and implements a BC Hydro specific data analytics approach that will further streamline
- Stays current on emerging trends in the technology space and identifies emerging technologies
- Accountable for the leadership, management and performance of the departments reporting to
culture that promotes commitment to safety and sustainability, inclusion and diversity, regulatory
and business planning excellence, teamwork and people development.
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent; MBA or advanced
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning, safety, inclusion and diversity
- Experience in leading multi-disciplinary, corporate-wide IT solutions from project inception to
- Minimum of 15 years’ progressive leadership experience culminating in a CIO role or senior
- Experience presenting to executive management and Boards by explaining technical concepts in
- Extensive experience with large, complex, multi-year and sophisticated enterprise-wide systems
organizational transformation and change management initiatives
- Comfortable with both information technology and operational technology
- Strategic business technology leader with a strong customer service focus and a deep
business objectives
- Conceptual thinker with demonstrated ability to develop long term strategic plans that meet
- Ability to think creatively and strategically in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment
- Ability to think and contribute beyond their own team’s objectives and success
- Exceptional communication, facilitation, collaboration and leadership skills

Flexible work model role definitions
===========================
Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home
based on the type of work they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for
each position and the operational requirements. Employees also have the right to work full-time
from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in-person time.
IBEW/Field – No option to work from home
Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.
Hybrid – May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week.
Remote – Works from home 4+ days per week
