Your opportunity:

The Rotman Commerce program is offered jointly by the Rotman School of Management and the Faculty of Arts and Science. It is a highly respected, highly competitive program within the business, financial and academic communities. Rotman Commerce serves approximately 3200 in-program undergraduate business students as well as over 16,000 graduates of the Bachelor of Commerce program. Rotman Commerce offers its students a rich and rigorous academic program alongside ample opportunities to develop themselves personally and professionally.

As the Career Advisor, Industry, you will work with a team of career service professionals to ensure students and recent alumni are prepared to enter the job market with confidence and a solid understanding of how their strengths, values and interests are coherent with their identity and program of study. You will be responsible for the development of quality, high-level external partnerships within an industry sector in order to provide the highest quality career development services to students.

Your responsibilities will include:


  • Advising and coaching students on developing career-related goals; training and coaching students on realistic goal setting and time management skills
  • Implementing programming to foster students’ individual career development process; reviewing and assessing feedback received from workshops, programming and appointments
  • Keeping well-informed on industry best practices and trends
  • Promoting programs and service offerings to internal and/or external contacts
  • Fostering cooperative working relationships with a wide variety or internal and external contacts; maintaining relationships with existing employers and corporate partners
  • Probing for information from employers to establish activities that best meet student learning needs
  • Analyzing and recommending actions to increase student / employer visibility; implementing plans and process improvements for employer engagement activities
  • Advising studentson employment options and strategies; promoting employer jobs and engagement with students


Essential Qualifications:


  • Master’s Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum five (5) years full-time, relevant, progressively more senior experience
  • Experience facilitating and presenting; experience in coaching or advising (preferably within a university setting)
  • Experience in career services or campus recruitment is required
  • Ability to utilize technology, including social media, as an education tool
  • Experience in corporate relations or serving in a client facing capacity
  • Demonstrated written, oral and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to handle a variety of projects, deadlines and schedules simultaneously and under minimal supervision
  • Collaborative team approach and positive attitude
  • Outstanding customer service focus and the ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people at different levels of the University and with external stakeholders is essential
  • Possesses a deep, as well as broad, understanding of an assigned market sector and career options within a sector; understanding of career trends and opportunities
  • Must have a good understanding of business students and employment markets
  • Demonstrated decision-making skills in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Tact, discretion, and sensitivity to confidential matters
  • Strong computer skills; sound working knowledge of MS Office; experience with databases and Content Management Systems
  • Ability to work outside of normal office hours for event support


Assets (Nonessential):


  • Career coaching certification
  • Experience working with post-secondary students in a university environment
  • Experience or knowledge in business communities such as finance, accounting, management, or marketing
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:
USW Pay Band 14 - $79,404 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $101,547. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
