As a Business and Policy Planner, you will primarily be supporting Calgary Parks staff, its Management Team and Director, and may be required to interact with Council Members, the City Manager’s Office and other departments and business units. Primary duties include:
  • Conduct business/strategic planning and project coordination for Calgary Parks. This includes process design, research and analysis, report writing, stakeholder facilitation and engagement, performance measure development and reporting, as well as linking plans to multi-year budgets.
  • Perform research/trends monitoring and analysis (for example: legislation and funding, risk assessment and mitigation, citizen perceptions and expectations, best practices reviews, citizen satisfaction surveys, and issues management).
  • Coordinate Calgary Parks input into corporate strategic initiatives and business planning processes.
  • Identify and conduct an analysis of issues related to the business unit and department services (for example: issue framing, identification of alternatives, stakeholder consultation, cost-benefit analysis, and formulation of options and recommendations).
  • Review and develop public policy and issue management strategies.
  • Represent Calgary Parks in cross-department projects and at City of Calgary Committee or Council meetings as required.
Qualifications
  • A degree in Business, Public Administration, Strategic or Urban planning, or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of experience in role which involved elements of business/strategic planning consultation, research and analysis, stakeholder engagement, project management, policy development, and group facilitation.
  • A background in communications, expertise in the development, tracking and reporting of performance measures, and a good working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are strong assets for this position.
  • Strong communication skills; excellent planning, public engagement, group facilitation and organization skills; the ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders; exemplary writing skills and demonstrated tact and diplomacy when dealing with conflict.
  • Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
