SUMMARY

The Technician II is a mid entry level position, responsible for assisting other technicians, performing maintenance and repair, routine services on non-technical facility components (i.e. walls, floors, etc.). The Technician II is also responsible for performing work in accordance with established processes and practices and for complying with internal and external requirements including but not limited to environmental, health and safety, fire protection.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Troubleshooting

  • Provides observations about facility, facility mechanical and electrical equipment and systems conditions and deficiencies and provides suggestions for enhancement and repair.

Maintenance

  • Performs work in accordance to established processes and practices.
  • Complies with all internal and external requirements including but not limited to environmental, health and safety, fire protection.
  • Performs regular facility technical and non-technical component monitoring and inspection.
  • Responds to routine service requests and performs preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Operates facility mechanical, electrical and other systems
  • Manages work order life cycle progressing the work form dispatched through to completion and records resolution data within service maintenance management database. Ensures work completed meets quality, contract response and all other requirements
  • Assists in the implementation of preventative maintenance (PM) program. Ensures that deficiencies are identified, recorded and escalated, and that related documents are maintained.

Client Relations

  • Assists in enhancing tenant and customer satisfaction and maintaining positive relations through manner in which work is performed and services delivered.

Administration

  • Records resolution data within service maintenance management database. Ensures work completed meets quality, contract response and all other requirements.
  • Receives, tracks, monitors and reports status of maintenance and repair work within service maintenance management database. Initiates documents to obtain formal approval of work required
  • Participates in and assists with facility-related projects.
  • Ensures the manner in which work is performed is in compliance with corporate and legislated policies, procedures, practices and guidelines related to environmental, health and safety, fire protection and any other applicable requirements.
  • Maintains all assigned tools and arranges for repair and replacement where required
  • Submits all expenditures on a timely basis.
  • Other duties as assigned

Conference Centre Duties

Conference Centre Management staff will be responsible for a variety of duties associated with the regular operations of the Conference Centre and setup rooms for events. This includes helping to run scheduled events as per the client needs.

The hours of work for this position vary dependent on scheduled events. This position is expected to work evenings and weekends as required.

To help facilitate scheduled Conference Centre events and functions by:

  • Opening and closing the rooms per the event schedule;
  • Understanding the different Conference Centre rooms and associated people capacities, setup styles and options;
  • Set-up the rooms according to the functions sheets provided by the Centre management;
  • Monitoring the scheduled event and ensuring no damage to the Centre or its equipment/property;
  • Maintaining effective communication with the Conference Centre staff and the clients;
  • Working to resolve any guest conflicts or disputes that may arise;
  • Monitoring and controlling event operations in the absence of the Conference Centre Management;
  • Ensuring the highest level of customer service for all customers and guests.

To perform other related duties as required for Conference Centre events and functions.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of processes and practices relating to facility operations and maintenance
  • Ability to maintain, troubleshoot and repair non-technical facility components
  • Ability to provide observations about facility conditions and deficiencies and provide suggestions for enhancement and repair
  • Ability to research, learn, and gain greater proficiency in applying on-the-job—fire, life, and building codes and standards
  • Possesses a strong environment, health and safety mindset. Ability to perform work in a safe manner
  • Strong client-service orientation along with a high sense of urgency
  • Effective communication skills for the purpose of data relay, exchange, feedback, and clarification
  • Ability to read understand and interpret technical drawings and information
  • Self-motivated
  • Computer literacy
  • Demonstrated maintenance and repair skills
  • Must be able and willing to work shifts, be available for on-call/stand-by and emergency call outs as they arise
  • Must be willing to wear personal protective equipment
  • Must meet enhanced security clearance requirements
  • Valid drivers’ license
  • Experience in the Hospitality industry and/or working in a Conference Centre environment is required;
  • Experience in a similar role considered an asset;
  • Effective oral communication skills;
  • Proven ability to follow instructions and work under tight deadlines;
  • Must be comfortable with large groups of people;
  • Must be willing to work nights and/or weekends as required.
  • Be able to move and handling load of 23Kg
  • Challenging and constantly changing work environment;
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work tasks.

Licenses and/or professional accreditation

Any one of the following are considered an asset:

  • Building Operator Certification or equivalent through an accredited institution
  • Building Systems Maintenance Certificate (SMC)
  • Systems Maintenance Administrator (SMA)
  • Systems Maintenance Technician (SMT)
  • Facilities Technician Certification
  • Working towards a trade license, an asset
  • Working towards Building Environment Systems (BES) Operation Class 1
