Title: Bookkeeper

Hours: Full Time 37.5 hours weekly, 1 Year term with possibility of extension
Schedule:Standard hours during Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Hourly wage: $18.50 - $20.50 per hour, dependent on qualifications and experience

  • About the Role*

The Bookkeeper is responsible for providing accounting and administrative services to RaY under the direction of the Comptroller. RaY is a fast-paced environment which depends on reliable, open-minded, flexible and team oriented individuals to provide youth with what they need, on their terms, to better their lives.

  • Education and Experience:*
  • Experience working in accounting within the not-for-profit sector
  • Relevant training/certification in Accounting
  • Preferred certification: Level C-CPR, NVCI, ASIST, Stages of Change/Motivational Interviewing
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working in a similar role
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Check and Driver’s Abstract
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and Excel
  • Knowledge of MS Office, Google Products and general comfort with technology

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Required Assets:

  • Book-keeping in the non-profit sector is an asset
  • Some knowledge of poverty and homelessness issues
  • Ability to function well independently as well as being part of a team
  • Very organized and systematic nature
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent problem solving and time management skills

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The responsibilities of the Bookkeeper include, but are not limited to the following:

Payroll

  • Assist in reviewing bi-weekly payroll in Payworks
  • Update Manulife benefits costs for each employee
  • Ability to complete payroll independently if required

New/Existing Funding

  • Record and Maintain Accounting information in QuickBooks;
  • Track financial components/requirements of grant agreements;
  • Financial reporting to funders (monthly, quarterly, annually, at end);
  • Maintain funder reporting/payment schedule;
  • Ensure that transactions are coded correctly for the RaY account structure;
  • Assist in preparation of reports and records for annual audit;
  • Ensure accounting files are well-organized and accessible;
  • Reconcile banks, credit cards, petty cash, and accounts receivable monthly;
  • Reconcile all balance sheet items quarterly;

Procurement and Bill Payment

  • Monitor program purchases and reconcile with bills;
  • Prepare GST returns;
  • Remit fees;
  • Support staff in managing petty cash funds;

Receipts and Deposits

  • Make bank deposits;
  • Track and record receipt deposits – donations, sales, other income;

Perform other tasks as assigned

Physical DEMANDS and Work Environment:

  • Physical demands: sitting, walking, some lifting up to 20 lbs
  • Work environment: an environment of high-stress and fast-paced crisis intervention.
