Role Overview

As a Benefits Specialist you will contribute to BGRS’ success by managing all aspects of the US benefits program, as well as assisting the global Human Resources team as needed.

**In response to the COVID-19 pandemic all interviews are being conducted virtually. If selected for an in-office position, you will work remotely while BGRS operates under mandatory telework.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Accurate and timely administration of the Company’s US Benefit Program including:
  • coordinating the on-line enrollment, life change events
  • responding and resolving coverage issues
  • handling life insurance claims
  • monthly billing for each insurance carrier
  • Point of contact for all benefits providers and vendors and brokers as appropriate
  • Managing the US Disability Benefit Program including:
  • educating employees and People Managers on leaves and processes
  • coordinating with the claim’s adjudicators
  • all administrative tasks affiliated with all leaves (maternity, disability, FMLA etc.)
  • liaising with insurance company, payroll department, employee and manager throughout the leaves
  • Managing the annual US Benefit Program re-enrollment including:
  • benefit rates negotiation and contribution modelling
  • drafting and distributing of all enrollment communications
  • ensuring that the Benefits Portal is updated and ready for enrollment, including conducting system testing to ensure readiness
  • managing the process to ensure enrollment rate of at least 95%
  • troubleshooting all issues and addressing all employee concerns
  • Ensure that the Company is in compliance by:
  • making sure BGRS is incompliance with IRS and HIPAA regulations
  • ensuring Workers Compensation policies are current for each state
  • conducting non-discrimination testing during Q1 each year
  • distributing required legal notices
  • submitting Form 5500 filing by July 1st each year
  • facilitating process for 1094c/1095c reporting
  • Coordination with Payroll on benefits contributions changes and deductions each pay period.
  • Provide updates and or reports to US HR team on escalated benefits matters and leaves of absence.
  • Conduct research on industry practices and provide recommendation to improve benefit services.
  • Participate in HR Projects

What You Bring to BGRS

  • Bachelor’s degree/diploma
  • Minimum 5 years, in a benefits role, preferably in Human Resources Dept
  • Excellent inter-personal, communication and customer service skills
  • Strong organizational skills, and the ability to work in a team environment and under pressure while meeting all deadlines
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and proven aptitude for numbers and accuracy
  • Microsoft: Windows, Excel (vlook up, pivot table), Word, Power Point, MS Team
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion
  • Previous working experience with a Human Resources Information System is preferred
  • Minimum knowledgeable in payroll and benefits tax legislation/compliance preferred
  • Certified Employee Benefit Specialist certificate (CEBS) designation preferred
  • Courses in Bookkeeping and Accounting an asset
