Job Summary

The position Specialist Solution & System Integration requires significant technical knowledge and in-depth subject matter expertise. The Analyst is responsible for ensuring the availability, stability, performance and integrity of CN’s network and telecom infrastructure. As such, the Analyst must constantly work towards improving the monitoring, security and performance of the environment. The Analyst’s major responsibilities include focusing on system growth, capacity planning and delivering automation functionalities to optimize support tasks. The Analyst is also responsible for design review and acceptance, complex incident and problem management, providing training and mentoring, as well as 3rd level support

Main Responsibilities

Operational Excellence

  • Lead and execute installations/upgrades, configuration and maintenance of network infrastructure
  • Review and approve change controls and their quality as well as infrastructure implementations
  • Lead life cycle projects initiatives (analyze, test, deploy)
  • Lead problem investigation, follow-up on resolution and perform preventive maintenance tasks
  • Monitor and maintain system availability and performance
  • Work with the team to define, develop and implement appropriate automated processes and solutions to optimize day-to-day support activities
  • Define key performance indicators (KPIs) related to capacity and performance, service and network
  • Create and keep current process documentation: run books, diagrams, system layouts
  • Conduct advanced troubleshooting and correct vulnerabilities and bugs with vendors
  • Train and coach team on new capabilities and upcoming technology trends
  • Ensure compliance with all appropriate CN IT standards (e.g. security, architecture, project delivery methodology, SOX, etc.)

Delivery

  • Participate in the project A&P phase to estimate effort and build activity plan
  • Work with project team to deliver required infrastructure and participate in project transition and support strategies (T2C)
  • Contribute to technical proposals, specifications, requirements and design documents
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders and vendors as necessary

Practice Evolution

  • Participate in the evaluation and recommendation of network tools and technologies for existing and future business needs
  • Sit on multiple industry committees
  • Act as a technical expert who can provide training to multiple teams

Working Conditions

The Specialist supports a 24/7 environment on an on-call rotational basis.

Requirements

Experience

Relevant Experience

  • Between 5 to 10 years of relevant work experience
  • ITIL 2011 Foundation*
  • Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset

Education/Certification/Designation

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent degree or work experience
  • Minimum of one specialist-level certification or equivalent work experience: Cisco: Intermediate to Expert (CCNP to CCIE) or Nokia: NRSII

Technical Skills/Knowledge

  • Proficient in IP routing protocols
  • Proficient in multiprotocol label switching (Cisco or Nokia)
  • Proficient in ethernet switching (Cisco access and Nexus)
  • Proficient in quality of service (Cisco or Nokia)
  • Proficient in firewalls (Juniper or Palo Alto)
