Large Complex and Specialty claims is a diverse group of the strongest technical claims minds sitting nationally and supporting every area of the Claims operation. Through our Committee structure LC&S shapes and articulates the Economical philosophy of reserving, litigation and coverage interpretation.

As a CTA, you will provide technical direction on the most complex and challenging files, regularly meet with our senior leadership to provide briefings, interact closely with Commercial Insurance, Personal Insurance, Reinsurance and Governance. CTA’s deliver outstanding results through development of training programs, litigation strategy and legal vendor management. This role is an innovative touch point to the most challenging aspects of Claims.

Reporting to the Manager, Large Complex & Specialty Claims, you are a senior claims professional with a track record of progressively challenging assignments. You are motivated by a challenge and strive to continually push the boundaries of your adjusting experience and personal learnings You are comfortable working with autonomy but have a keen sense of team and are willing to assist others. You have a desire to work at the pinnacle of the adjusting experience, on a high-performance team.

What can you expect in this role?
  • Manage a portfolio of large complex claims both directly and indirectly.
  • Coach and Mentor junior staff.
  • Engage all stakeholders in the effective management of a claim including underwriting, reinsurance, actuary and senior leadership.
  • Assist in the quality assurance audits of our Claims staff, vendors and brokers.
  • Represent Economical in litigation, mediation and alternate dispute processes.
  • Assist in training and providing technical support to team members.

What do you bring to the role?
  • University degree in any discipline or a 2 year college diploma from a provincially recognized and funded community college or fully completed CIP designation.
  • A minimum of 12 - 15 years general claims handling experience.
  • Fully licensed in both commercial and personal lines in the province of Quebec.
  • A minimum of 8 years claims experience handling at least one of the following exposures: large CGL claims / E&O / D&O / US Liability / Environmental / Class Action / Latent defect as well as Vise Cache in the province of Quebec.
  • Experience with mediation, arbitration, règlement à l’amiable and litigation.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring junior staff.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office and strong computer skills.
  • Perform well in a busy operation and remain calm under pressure.
  • Strive to continually push the boundaries of your adjusting experience and personal learnings.
  • Team player adaptable to a changing environment

This role requires successful clearance of a background check (including credit & criminal checks)
