The Canadian Network on Hepatitis C (CanHepC) is a national collaborative research and training initiative dedicated to the advancement of Hepatitis C virus research funded through a 5 year grant and administered from the Toronto Centre for Liver Disease part of the Toronto General Hospital. CanHepC brings together over 100 members including researchers, student trainees and knowledge users across different academic institutions and organizations in Canada, as well as international partners. Supporting CanHepC’s research program and an integral part of its mission, the Training, Education and Mentorship (TEM) program offers graduate, post-doctoral and clinical student fellowships, as well as a structured curriculum including a multidisciplinary online course, journal club and webinars. Amongst its other activities, CanHepC also organizes every year the Canadian Symposium on Hepatitis C Virus, a national transdisciplinary research conference showcasing some of the latest discoveries in the field of Hepatitis C research.

Functioning as a core member of CanHepC’s Secretariat, the Curriculum Process Lead’s main responsibility is to oversee the operational management and implementation of the CanHepC TEM program working in close collaboration with key stakeholders involved (e.g. students, academic faculties, mentors, sponsors, etc.) to ensure objectives are met. The Curriculum Process Lead is also required to manage other network activities and coordinate the organisation of events such as the Canadian Symposium on Hepatitis C Virus. The Curriculum Process Lead will report to CanHepC’s leadership (Directors, Associate Director of Operations) and works closely with the TEM program leads in the execution of their day to day duties.

Duties

  • Leads coordination of the TEM program curriculum core requisite learning activities, yearly student trainee fellowship competitions and has oversight of coordination for all elective learning activities in the curriculum.
  • Monitors overall progress, priorities and deliverables of the TEM curriculum and acts as the primary point person for enquiries and key curriculum deliverables and priorities (including logistical considerations).
  • Leads troubleshooting for day to day curriculum issues with students, faculty, administration and leadership and acts as primary point of escalation.
  • Oversees, prepares and monitors TEM program operational budgets, tracks revenues and expenditures including student stipends allocations and coordinates student stipend transfer agreements to third party institutions.
  • Supports TEM program fundraising including educational grant preparation, coordination and follow-up.
  • Leads coordination and communication processes associated with the TEM program curriculum including updating website content, social media engagement, writing newsletters and email communications.
  • Plans and coordinates an annual abstract-driven research symposium including program development, coordinating invitations, registrations, abstracts review process, posters tours and awards, supporting fundraising activities, reviewing expense reconciliation, and meeting reimbursements and payments.
  • Leads the logistical planning of network events such as network annual meeting ensuring invitation coordination, registration tracking, meeting logistics and providing general one-site support.
  • Fosters and maintains relationships with internal and external stakeholders (within UHN and beyond working with network governing committees, students, researchers, funders, sponsors and other staff across partner institutions).
  • Contributes to support network grant administration and operations, overall communications and other secretarial tasks as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Health Sciences, Education, Business or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the deployment and management of programs or projects.
  • Experience organizing research conferences, coordinating meetings, and event logistics.
  • Experience tracking project expenses, preparing budgets, financial reports and projections.
  • Experience working in multi-stakeholder environments and ability to interact with, engage, and build relationships with diverse stakeholders including students, researchers, leaders, and external partners.
  • Demonstrated communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) appropriate recommendations and summaries to leadership.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently, prioritize workloads and be productive in a remote environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills: scheduling, planning, coordinating, time management, and great attention to detail.
  • Excellent listening, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to adapt to changing priorities and implement new initiatives in support of program goals and objectives.
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Zoom, website CMS.
  • Able to communicate in French (oral and written) is an asset.
  • Experience in the development and coordination of educational programs is an asset.
  • Project management certification an asset.
