Job description:

The Opportunity

Our group of companies is in search of a self-directed and experienced Controller to oversee all financial, accounting, and human resource activities.

Sonele Inc. and MD Precision Inc. develop and manufacture medical devices within an ISO13485 and FDA-registered facility in Markham, Ontario. We are also a leading ultrasound OEM manufacturer specializing in high-performance transducers.

The successful candidate will join our team and support the Chief Financial Officer in various strategic and operational activities. They will be responsible for cash management, financial analysis, payroll, forecasting, accounts payable, accounts receivable and financial reporting. Key areas within the human resources department will also be managed by the Controller, including policy and procedure compliance and ongoing maintenance of HR practices. As a strong communicator and skilled financial analyst, this individual will streamline our accounting and financial reporting processes and produce thorough financial-status reports for senior management to help improve our operational efficiency and aid in our continued growth. Responsibilities

  • Supervise the finance team and oversee operations to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
  • Utilize software to compile financial reports tailored for internal decision-makers.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and track inventory assets.
  • Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflows.
  • Establish and enforce controls for monthly financial reporting to ensure compliance.
  • Lead the development of standardized operating procedures (SOPs) for data collection, budgeting, and month-end close processes.
  • Maintain stewardship of complete, consistent, and accurate financial data.
  • Facilitate accurate reporting and analysis, providing insights into the company’s financial position.
  • Review contracts and agreements, such as vendor contracts and loans, and communicate their financial implications to company leadership.
  • Forecast the company’s future financial position based on trends in historical financial data.
  • Utilize financial forecasts to offer strategic insights and recommendations.
  • Implement procedures and ensure accurate data migration for accounting systems, including enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
  • Identify and analyze potential events that may adversely impact the company’s financial position.
  • Apply for and complete various grant and funding applications.

General Skills:

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or business administration.
  • Professional Accounting Designation (CPA, CMA, CGA or CA).
  • 5+ years of senior accounting experience and/or related financial management experience.
  • Expertise in accounting processes.
  • Proficiency in financial planning and analysis.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and system controls.
  • Understanding of contract analysis would be an asset.
  • Experience in financial aspects of manufacturing operations would be an asset.
