The Grande Prairie Public School Division requires a Communications Officer to join the Division. The Grande Prairie Public School Division?is a progressive and growing school division. The implementation of a strategic plan for communications to inform and engage internal and external stakeholders is a key strategy for developing public assurance in the work of our Division. We are seeking a skilled Communications Officer to support internal and external communications, manage our internal and external communications platforms, and to provide support for school communications. Our Communications Officer has a role to play in the attainment of the overall priorities and specific outcomes contained in our 3-Year Education Plan.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Working with senior leadership to develop and implement a strategic communications plan for the Division
Lead the ongoing development and management of the Division’s Internal Portal, External Web Page and social media accounts such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
Monitor news related to the K-12 Public Education system in Alberta
Manage media relations and media requests for the Division
Attend meetings of the Board of Trustees and create and distribute highlights of the meetings in a timely manner to our school division community
Supporting the development of written materials including press releases, FAQs, and speaking notes as required
Supporting schools to effectively communicate and engage their communities
Develop and manage the production of photo and video libraries for Division use
Qualifications and desirable skills:
Post-Secondary training in communications, marketing, public relations, or related field require
Minimum of 5 (five) years of experience in communications or a related field is preferred
Excellent writing skills, with the ability to create clear, consistent, and on-brand content
High level of organization and prioritization skills, with a keen attention to detail
Knowledgeable in the Microsoft Office Suite of software including Outlook, Publisher, Sharepoint, Excel, and Word
Proficient with commonly used social media platforms and the ability to learn new software tools as they develop
Skilled with Adobe tools, and other commonly used professional graphic design platforms
Proficient with the concepts of web page design and able to work with webpage software
Experience with photography and basic video editing
Ability to work independently and proactively to produce high quality work consistent with the strategic communications plan outcomes
Ability to maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with privacy legislation
Other combinations of education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered
