Communications Manager

This position reports to the Publicity Director or designate and is part of the Publicity team.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare internal and external communications to the highest standards
  • Coordinate photo and video shoots and oversee as required
  • Participate in the creation of media and communications strategies and plans
  • Develop, pitch and coordinate coverage
  • Pitch, research and write editorial content for various publications
  • Liaise with media
  • Speak on behalf of the Festival to media as required
  • Prepare daily high-level media scans pertinent to the business of the Festival and the theatre industry
  • Assist in the development of crisis communications; lead as required (including Covid response communications, cyber-security response, obituary management)
  • Edit and proofread written communications as required
  • Track and analyze media stats as required
  • Adhere to the Stratford Festival’s Health & Safety Commitment, Policies and Procedures, and inform your supervisor of any unsafe condition immediately
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • University degree or equivalent education and experience in a field related to Communications, Public Relations or Journalism
  • At least eight years’ experience in a publicity role preferably in a performing arts or entertainment industry
  • Strong interest in and knowledge of theatre
  • Exceptional writing and research skills
  • Compelling verbal communications skills, including experience as a spokesperson
  • Strong interest in supporting EDI policies and actions
  • Crisis communications experience
  • Media relations experience, including a network of contacts and/or rich understanding of the entertainment media landscape
  • Ability to work quickly and multitask
  • A dedication to accuracy and a keen eye for detail
  • Equal comfort working independently and as part of a team

This full time position is located in Stratford, Ontario and will begin as soon as possible. Candidates must be available to embrace a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as required.
