We are currently recruiting for a permanent, full-time Communications & Marketing Advisor for our Communications & Marketing Services department.

About this opportunity :

The Communications and Marketing Advisor reports to the Manager, Communications and Marketing Advisory Services and is a senior communications expert who provides strategic communications and marketing advice to department colleagues and the Extended Leadership Team in support of the Council Strategic Plan, the Corporate Business Plan, and the CMS Strategy. The Communications and Marketing Advisor develops and implements communication and marketing plans, supports media relations and issues management, and develops a variety of communication products that inform and engage our staff and the community.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to :

Serves as the single point of contact for the assigned division’s Extended Leadership Team, fostering sound relationships and providing strategic recommendations

Consults with the client on assigned projects to gather and translate information into relevant, compelling, and easy-to-understand content that is informational and builds trust and transparency with the target audiences

Leads the development and implementation of strategic communications plans, identifies issues, and determines mitigation strategies

Targets content to the intended audience and it is presented in a clear and unified way that aligns with the City’s brand and supports the City’s Strategic Plan

Plans, prepares, writes, edits, produces, and implements materials, including keys messages and FAQs, news releases, media advisory, announcements, website content, advertising copy, social media content, speaking notes, etc. for various internal and external audiences

Measures and reports on campaign outcomes

Regularly updates Manager, Communications and Marketing Advisory Services on the status of projects and seeks guidance or direction when needed

Builds and maintains positive relationships with members of the media

Qualifications

You are an ideal candidate if you have the following:

Post-secondary degree in communications, marketing, journalism, advertising, public relations, or a related field, or a diploma with a similar focus complemented by working experience

Minimum of five (5) years of advisory and consultative experience in communications

Experience advising, engaging and collaborating with senior-level management

Excellent verbal, writing, editing, and proofreading skills

Demonstrated experience developing and implementing professional, engaging, strategic, and impactful messages through a variety of media

Proficiency in a Windows-based environment including the use of the Microsoft suite and Cloud-based platform

Experience working in municipal government is considered an asset

Must be willing to provide a current Criminal Records Check at own expense
