We are seeking a skilled and dynamic Communications Advisor to join our team and play a pivotal role in promoting the Nanilavut Project within the ISR and surrounding communities. The successful candidate will be responsible for increasing awareness of key issues impacting the Inuvialuit community while ensuring a balanced approach that aligns with the project’s objectives in the region.

About the Nanilavut Project:

The Nanilavut Initiative was created to help Inuvialuit and Inuit from across Canada locate lost loved ones who did not return home after being sent to southern hospitals during the Tuberculosis Epidemic (1940s to 1960s). In many cases, information about patients being treated for Tuberculosis (TB) in the South was never communicated to family members back home. Nanilavut means "Let’s find Them" in Inuktitut.

The ideal candidate will have the following combination of education, experience, and knowledge:

  • Five years of media content creation experience, including text, photos, videos, graphics, documentaries, and podcasts.
  • Proficient in research, storytelling scriptwriting, and audio and visual editing.
  • Experience in managing and maintaining social media platforms and websites (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.).
  • Knowledge of website development, maintenance, and social media management.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud for graphic design, web page editing, and photo editing.
  • Photography skills and ability to incorporate videos into communications.
  • Event planning experience.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to handle multiple projects independently.
  • Excellent prioritization skills and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Effective relationship building with internal and external stakeholders, including community engagement.
  • Experience as a project spokesperson, comfortable with broadcast and print media interviews.
  • Adaptability to work in a cross-cultural environment.
  • Knowledge of Inuvialuit Regional Corporation (IRC), ISR communities, history, and culture.
  • Willingness to travel and work outside regular office hours as required.
