As a Collection Officer you’ll be working as part of a project team based at Melford.This post will deliver essential tasks for the project following the Trust’s collection management procedures. This is an excellent development opportunity for anyone interested in developing their knowledge of collections management.We are looking to recruit 1 part time (2 days/15 hrs per week) role for a period of 10 months. The interview date is likely to be Wednesday 02 AugustbyWebEx.What it’s like to work hereYou will be working for and reporting to a Registrar in the central Collection Management and Care team.Your contractual location will be Melford but you may also be required to visit regional offices to audit organisation archives.What you’ll be doingThis post is based on the operational Collections Officer role except that you’ll be working directly to deliver project specific tasks.Some of the project specific tasks you may be asked to deliver are:Inventory & Location Audit - confirming the presence of items whether listed or not, inventory labelling items and updating CMS as required.Information Audit - locating, recording and collating all information relevant to the legal ownership and provenance of items held within, or possibly without, the organisation.Retrospective Inventory Management- updating both inventory and entry records on CMS following the approved outcome of Legal Ownership and Provenance research.Who we’re looking forWe’d love to hear from you if you have:
  • Experience of using a Collections Management System (CMS)
  • Awareness of collections management documentation and archive processes
  • An awareness of collections management procedures and Museum Accreditation standards
  • Good communication skills
  • Competent IT skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Able to multi-task, attentive to detail and maintain confidentiality
  • Good time management
  • Experience handling collections
