The position of CNC Boring Milling Operatoraccurately sets up and operates conventional, and computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic mold parts to drawing details, specifications, and tight tolerances by efficiently and effectively performing the following duties.

Major Responsibilities

Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances for their specific operation, sequence of operation, and setup requirements.

Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on jig bore.

Materials vary in size and weight. Plate fixtures require overhead crane to safely lift and affix to machine. Parts are hand tightened and secured to machine.

Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control elements.

Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.

Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunction or out of tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.

Through the use of precision measurement tools to ensure quality, the machinist verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications and all tolerances as low as +/- .001” to +/- .0002”, and signs off on required document.

Confers with Supervisor, Engineering, Quality Assurance, Production Personnel, Programmers, or others to resolve any problems they may encounter.

The proper maintenance of their machine and housekeeping of their work area.

Job Requirments

3 to 5 years’ of work experience in similar role

Knowledge is required in the areas of basic mold construction, blue print reading, mathematics and the use of electronic or computer controls.

Proven ability to perform to detailed and complex drawings with part profile information, specifications, and tolerances.

Strong ability to effectively operate and maintain machining equipment to tight tolerances ensuring the high standards of quality are achieved in an effective and cost efficient manner.
