Responsibilities
The Clinical Therapist is a member of the Adult or Child & Adolescent Service, Mental Health and Addictions. Reporting to the Manager, the Clinical Therapist provides assessment and planning, treatment and intervention, and crisis management for clients. The Clinical Therapist carries out the general duties of the Adult or Child & Adolescent Service team but in addition to those duties, participates in quality initiatives in the program of care, engages in collaborative person-centred care, and utilizes available information technology to support best practice. The Clinical Therapist receives and provides supervision and mentorship as part of a community of practice. It is an expectation that the Clinical Therapist will act in a professional and ethical manner, following all recognized codes of ethics, standards, legislation, and guidelines relevant to clinical practice and profession. They will convey respect and a solid understanding of subtle and complex diversity and inclusion issues as they relate to specific groups.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a clinical health-related discipline (Masters in Social Work, Psychology (Registered, Masters), Masters in Counseling, Masters in Nursing, Masters in Occupational Therapy)
- Must be registered with the relevant regulatory body
- Two years’ related experience required (including assessment and planning, treatment and intervention and discharge planning).
- Non Violence Crisis Intervention (NVCI) preferred
- Suicide Risk Assessment preferred
- Ability to work effectively in multiple software applications required
- In-depth and critical understanding of the principles of harm reduction, the dynamics of addiction and evidence based interventions for the treatment of addiction.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of standard criteria used (DSM V) for the classification and diagnosis of mental health disorders.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in individual/ group cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psycho educational groups.
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational and prioritization skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in crisis intervention, suicide and violence risk assessment/ intervention
- Non-violent crisis intervention, Standard First Aid, CPR, Mental Health First Aid training required.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently with limited supervision and participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Basic competencies in relation to identifying and treating concurrent mental health and substance use disorders
- Experience in interviewing, counseling and teaching health concepts to individuals, families and groups.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in collaborating with families in relation to sharing information, and implementing family-sensitive services that involve families in the care and recovery of people living mental illness and addiction.
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
- Successful external applicants are required to provide a Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search) and Child Abuse Registry to People Services before starting employment and assume any associated costs as a condition of employment.
Hours of Work
Permanent full-time (100%) position; 75.00 hours bi-weekly.
Salary Information
Clinical Therapist (HC87)
$34.99 - $45.99 hourly
