JobBackground& Summary:

We at Actalent Services are a fast-growing engineering consulting group which expanded to Canada in 2014. A significant part of that growth has come out of our Western Canadian Operations with a focus in Infrastructure and Utilities. To support this growth, we have opened a full-time position for Civil Drafter / Designer (Electrical or Civil background ) to join our team on a full-time basis. The selected individual will be a part of our Utilities Division based out of New Westminster, BC.

The Drafter/Designer will prepare technical drawings across our portfolio of projects. Key activities include liaising with internal and external stakeholders, coordinating drafting deliverables and developing and implementing procedures for the efficient delivery of technical drawings. The ideal candidate for this position should be willing to cross-train across civil and electrical disciplines, as well as be interested in learning design.

The role will be based out of our New Westminster, BC office. Our operation is under a Hybrid work model.

This role required Drug and Alcohol screening as a pre-employment requirement.

Job Requirements:

• Diploma in Electrical/Civil Engineering Technology, CAD or equivalent
• 1 year experience with in civil or electrical infrastructure drafting or design
• 1 year experience using Civil 3D for horizonal infrastructure drafting or design
• Extensive experience using AutoCAD 2D drafting software
  
  

Considered an asset for the role:

• Familiar with layout, schematics, wiring, and instrumentation drawings.
• Power utility projects (Overhead (OH) or Underground (UG) utility distribution and/or telecom infrastructure) drafting or design experience.
• Experience with BC Hydro and FortisBC standards will be considered an asset.
• Experience with MicroStation 2D, AutoCAD 3D and Autodesk Inventor will be considered an asset.
  
  

Job Responsibilities:

Drafting:

• Performs a variety of complex drafting related to electrical/civil engineering design across multiple clients and engineering projects.
• Review’s drawings prepared by other drafters, departments, manufacturers, contractors and consultants to ensure accuracy and compatibility of dimensions, details and adherence to standards and design parameters.
• Provides guidance to customers, clients and other drafters and planners regarding layout of drawings and the application of engineering and engineering drafting standards and procedures.
• Responsible for the overall quality of drafting work through the checking and review of work to ensure sketches are accurately drafted and internal and external client drafting standards and procedures are adhered to.
• Manages drawing file transmittals with client leads and responsible for management of drawing status database.
  
  

Designing:

• Design underground and overhead electrical infrastructure according to client and national standards and requirements.
• Use SPIDAcalc non-linear pole line analysis tool to evaluate pole design and create non-standard OH Line design solutions.
• Use of underground cable pulling calculation software to confirm design solutions, such as pull planner.
• Use load balancing and fuse coordination software for distribution system improvement projects.
• Provide design for any non-standard/engineered solutions.
• Prepare design packages for review and submission. Packages to be provided for Pole Replacement/Maintenance, LPT/PMT/Livefront, Feeder Design, Smart Meter, Customer Driven 3rd Party Attachments, Automation and other BC Hydro Programs.
• Checking and reviewing work of peers
• Prepare issue for construction packages
• Coordinating with clients, co-workers, subcontractors, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders
• Attend project meetings and conduct site inspections and review
