About Our Opportunity


Under the direction of the Regional Manager, the Casework Supervisor provides supervision to Social Workers who provide a broad range of departmental programs and services.


Primary Accountabilities


As the Casework Supervisor (Social Worker 3), you will provide supervision in social work techniques, as well as policies and procedures on a daily basis. You will also manage the delivery of Children, Youth and Family services and supervise Social Workers and clerical support staff.


You will distribute and assign cases and are responsible for the ongoing case audits and caseload reviews. You must actively deal with difficult and complex cases using social work techniques and ensure a high level of professional service to the public.


You are responsible for communication and follow-up of information between management and staff, inspiring and motivating staff engagement, planning and implementation of new services, ongoing improvement of current services and the development of strong relationships within the team and across the region.


You will also work collaboratively with the program specialist(s), regional supervisors and relevant community agencies and non-profit groups.


Qualifications and Experience


You have successfully completed a Bachelor of Social Worker and have at least five (5) years of related experience. A Master of Social Work along with three (3) years of related experience will also be considered. You must be registered (or be eligible for registration) with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers.


You possess a good theoretical and practical knowledge of social worker practices, departmental process, family functioning, child development, services to persons with disabilities, and effective strategies with individuals and families.


You have effective interpersonal and communication skills, sound judgment, strong organizational skills, and the ability to provide effective leadership in complex and difficult situations.


Supervisory experience would be an asset.


We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Working Conditions


The majority of the work involves meeting with staff in the workplace. There is occasional travel involved in this position when attending regional/provincial meetings, training, and working groups. While present in the office, time is spent sitting in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move about.


You may often be required to work beyond regular business hours, and often on short notice. Personal resiliency is essential to meet the physical and emotional demands of this position. This position is subject to a high degree of stress; you must be able to work under pressure and in crisis situations.


Additional Information


You may be eligible for reimbursement of your registration fees to the NS College of Social Workers.


You must have a valid driver’s licence and have the ability to travel when responding to various work site locations. Travel expenses will be covered in accordance with the collective agreement, policies and procedures.


This is a Term opportunity with an anticipated end date of August 19, 2022. The appointment status (‘term’, ‘temporary’ or ‘casual’) is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

Pay Grade: PR 17

Salary Range: $2,913.59 - $3,421.98 Bi-Weekly
