Job Description

The Calibration Engineering Specialist is an Individual contributor with recognized expertise and is responsible for Controls Calibration tasks and results throughout the entire vehicle development lifecycle including requirements definition, calibration design and implementation, testing, and problem resolution.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and ownership of calibration data sets of thermal-based mechatronic systems within current and future vehicle platforms. It will include the development of controller configurations and internal performance diagnostic calibrations.

This position involves a combination of in-vehicle and laboratory data collection, bulk data analysis, along with related performance verification on bench/in vehicle to ensure robust execution of diagnostic and controls calibrations. Calibration Engineering Specialists engage in multi-functional teams, are encouraged to prioritize different projects/priorities, and frequently need to balance planned and unplanned work.

Travel requirements of ~30 days per year are to be expected. Travel locations in the US include Michigan, Colorado, California, Arizona. Travel locations within Canada include Markham (ON) as well as Kapuskasing (ON).

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Creation and maintenance of a calibration development plan (similar to a project plan)
  • Development and delivery of calibration data sets in accordance with project plan
  • Troubleshoot and root cause issues with systems, test vehicles and instrumentation
  • Support development of test benches and execute early calibration work using test benches
  • Participate in development trips and related test activities
  • Support resolution of vehicle, plant, durability/dyno, or customer issues

Additional Job Description

Required Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Computer, Mechatronics, System Design or similar)
  • Minimum of 2 years post-graduation engineering experience
  • Candidate is required to be a self-starter who takes pride in their work and demonstrates a steadfast pursuit of innovation and continuous improvement
  • Experience developing control system calibrations
  • Proficiency with control system theory
  • Experience with data acquisition and Strong ability to expertly collect and analyze empirical data.
  • Time management skills to meet agreed upon customer deliverables, able to lead multiple projects
  • General knowledge of automotive systems (Powertrain, Chassis, and CAN/LIN communication
  • Proven experience developing scripts using programming languages such as Visual
  • Basic, C, C++ or Python
  • Experience with tools commonly used in calibration: INCA, Vehicle Spy, CRETA, MDA, and/or MATLAB/Simulink
  • Experience with ETAS/INCA, Intrepid/Vehicle Spy or similar DAQ tools
  • Experience with dSPACE/Control Desk or similar HIL tools
  • Experience with embedded C programming language and Simulink
  • Experience performing hands-on debugging or troubleshooting of software and/or hardware components
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Interpersonal styles and communication skills to work effectively with local and international team members
  • Ability to work independently and travel to the US to conduct business on short notice
  • Valid Driver’s license for Ontario.

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Expertise in OBDII compliant diagnostics
  • Knowledge of safety critical control systems
  • General knowledge of automotive systems (Thermal, Propulsion, Electrification, Chassis, and CAN/LIN communication)
  • Ability to complete minor automotive mechanical and wiring work
