CAD Drafter

Job Summary:Quantum is looking for an experienced drafter to create project designs, cost estimates, identify appropriate materials and equipment, creates drawings, and estimates project timelines, for the placement of fiber optic cables, poles, conduit, transmission equipment and associated electronics. The hired candidate is expected to create designs based on current and past network architectures.

• Read, understand, and interpret various types of utility drawings.
• Organize and review all field documents and files for completeness.
• Under general supervision, performs field engineering of proposed projects to provide optimum routing alternatives ensuring the most cost-effective designs are developed for construction projects.
• Provides suggested cable routings, drop/house/unit count and proposed/actual pedestal locations and other topographical data intended to afford design personnel the optimum opportunity to design the most effective plant placement.
• Provides field investigation of construction projects both aerial and underground construction.
• Provides legible drawings in AutoCAD, Visio or hand drawn drawings depicting pickup locations and proposed routings.
• Provides Post-wire drawings of construction.
• Attend departmental meetings to understand and address the goals of the organization.

Qualifications

• Requires a minimum of two (2) to five (5) years’ experience.
• Bachelor’s degree or and/or a College or Technical Program in a telecommunications discipline
• Experience with Telecommunications or Hydro underground utilities
• Requires ability to function independent of a supervisor.
• Basic word-processing software and record keeping skills.
• Adaptable computer skills and ability to research online information from various sources.
• Willing to learn new technologies.
• Ability to read drawings and other project related documents
• College level courses in AutoCAD drafting/CATV design desired.
• Criminal Background Check as required for secure sites
• Valid Class 5 Drivers License

Ability to commute/relocate:

• Oak Bluff, MB: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)

Experience:

• AutoCAD: 2 years (required)
• Telecommunications/Hydro UG Utilities: 1 year (preferred)
