Biomedical Engineering Technologist I, Temporary Full-Time (Approximately 12 Months)
Facilities Management and Engineering, Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls Windsor

Definition of Work:
The Biomedical Engineering Technologist I is responsible to ensure that all patient care and medical equipment is operating to institutional, national and manufacturer specifications. This involves problem resolution; preventive maintenance; calibration and repair of all medical devices and equipment; training and development as well as maintaining all documentation as it relates to repairs. The successful candidate may be required to specialize in repairing equipment for a specific use: for example, x-ray, laser or patient monitoring machines and other related duties as required. Travel throughout the region may be required. This position will also provide services to the new long-term care facility. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.

  • Constantly Lifts/moves ?10lbs, regularly lifts/moves object ?25lbs. Occasionally lifts/moves ?50lbs. Regularly required to complete push/pulling with light to medium forces (11-44lbsF).
  • Work involves awkward postures in cramped/small spaces, reaching/stretching, bending/twisting and low-level postures. Standing, walking, climbing and driving would be performed on an occasional basis depending on the task being performed.
  • Work Environments present potential for exposure to scented/chemical products and/or other allergens within publicly accessible areas. Potential for exposure to blood, bodily fluids and/or other contagion.
  • Maintaining a clean-shaven face can be mandated to ensure proper seal of personal protective equipment.
Required Qualifications:
  • Graduation from High School with a diploma recognized by the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
  • Completion of a three-year diploma in Electronics Biomedical Engineering Technology approved by Central Health.
  • One-year recent experience in the Biomedical field.
  • Demonstrated effective administrative and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to:
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with others for the purpose of data exchange, clarification and follow up.
  • Capture work procedures provided by others accurately and prepare accurate job plans.
  • Create accurate maintenance schedules based on contract requirements.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office suite of applications and ability to quickly learn new software applications and information systems.
  • Consistent demonstration of Central Health’s corporate values; Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Stewardship and Quality.
  • A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
  • A satisfactory certificate of conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.

Hours of Work: 75 hours biweekly (Shift work and On-Call may be required)
Salary: CG-31 ($28.29 - $31.44)
