POSITION OVERVIEW:

The lab of Dr. Daniel Durocher (Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute) is currently seeking a candidate to fill a position of Bioinformatics Specialist to support its active research program on DNA repair, cell cycle and synthetic lethality. The Durocher lab is a world-class laboratory studying how damaged DNA is repaired, with the greater goal of understanding how its dysregulation contributes to diseases such as cancer. The candidate will be using computational methods to assist in research investigations in the area of functional genomics relating to cancer biology and therapeutics. The successful candidate will also be central to most research programs in the laboratory where they will assist in data analysis, visualization, and organization.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Execute next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis packages, maintain and troubleshoot NGS analytical pipelines, and manage mass data storage and backup.
  • Execute CRISPR/Cas9 screen data analysis platforms (MaGeCK, BAGEL, DrugZ, JACKS and others).
  • Execute analysis of various sequencing-based methods (for ChIP-seq, Cut&Run, END-seq, scRNA-seq, etc)
  • Assist with data visualization, primarily in R and Python
  • Assist with data mining methods and support diverse data analysis strategies
  • Provide statistics support to research programs
  • Maintain or create laboratory databases.
  • Maintain or create laboratory websites.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of a B.Sc. In Computer Sciences, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics or related data sciences (e.g. statistics)
  • Two years of experience using bioinformatics, computational biology or data mining tools
  • Fluency with statistics/biostatistics, data mining, and dimensionality reduction methods.
  • Expertise in scientific languages R and Python
  • Training in NGS data analysis packages and pipelines preferred but not essential
  • Strong initiative to carry out independent research on data analysis problems and excellent problem-solving skills is an asset.
  • Ability to work in a diverse and inter-disciplinary environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be a team player, versatile, flexible, and self-motivated with strong communication skills and attention to detail
  • Must demonstrate satisfactory work performance and attendance record
