The Senior Wildlife Biologist will be a key team member in the South Coast, Ecosystems, Terrestrial Wildlife Resources Section focused on supervising professional staff, supporting decision making within regulatory frameworks, and implementing regional wildlife and ecosystems projects. Leading a regional team of subject matter experts, the Senior Wildlife Biologist guides regional wildlife and habitat stewardship planning, including cross-ministry engagement and collaboration with Indigenous Nations and partners.

Job Requirements:
  • Degree in biological sciences or equivalent.
  • Registered (or immediately eligible) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biology within six months of employment. (Note: Immediately eligible is defined as being registered as a Professional Biologist (RP Bio) with the College of Applied Biology within 6 months of appointment. Confirmation of registration/ eligibility will be required before an offer of employment can be confirmed. If you are not currently registered, advise how you have confirmed with the CAB that you are immediately eligible.)
  • Experience interpreting and applying environmental management legislation and policy.
  • Experience leading staff in project or field settings.
  • Experience in public and First Nations consultation processes on ecosystem management issues.
Preference may be given to applicants with one or more of the following:
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience in wildlife management, conservation biology, and species-at-risk management, especially for Northern Goshawk, Marbled Murrelet, Grizzly Bear, Mountain Goat, Black-tailed Deer, and Roosevelt Elk.
  • Experience in providing expert advice and recommendations to senior decision makers, with a focus on complex natural resource management issues.
  • Experience in the design and analysis of complex ecological studies.
  • Experience working with First Nation communities and/or facilitating First Nation consultation or negotiations.
  • Experience working collaboratively with First Nations on complex natural resource management issues.
  • Experience and knowledge of relevant provincial and federal acts, regulations, policies, and procedures (e.g., BC Forest and Range Practices Act, BC Wildlife Act, BC Land Act, Federal Species at Risk Act).
Provisos & Willingness Statements:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid B.C. driver’s licence.
  • Willingness to meet safety standards of Work Safe BC.
  • May require the operation of a variety of equipment.
  • Willingness to conducts field work which may include the following: travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
  • Must be ability to carry equipment and supplies in difficult terrain.

If you are not yet registered with the CAB, please explain how you are immediately eligible (i.e. currently a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) member in good standing in another Canadian jurisdiction and can immediately transfer to the CAB).

About this Position:
This position can be based in any of the following Coast Area Natural Resource Sector offices: Surrey, Squamish, Chilliwack, Nanaimo, or Victoria.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work at home subject to an approved telework agreement.
There will be occasional travel required to meet with the team and clients face to face; therefore, willingness to travel should be an important consideration in your application.
