Job Summary

Make a difference in this rewarding career opportunity

Supporting Ministry of Forest program goals and objectives, as well as wildlife management and reconciliation mandates of BC. This position will support the implementation of wildlife co-management strategies and objectives, as well as support wildlife population and ecosystem management, conservation, biodiversity, traditional use, restoration and enhancement projects in urban, agricultural and/or forest settings.

Job Requirements:
  • Degree in biological sciences or equivalent.
  • Registered (or eligible) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biology within six months of employment. Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction.
  • Experience in conducting environmental monitoring and assessments.
Preference may be given to applicants with one or more of the following experiences:
  • Wildlife management experience including project development, field work for data collection, data analysis, reporting, conveying management recommendations.
  • Engaging First Nations on wildlife management programs or projects.
  • Proactively engaging First Nations on wildlife work leading to collaborative outcomes or recommendations.
  • Experience interpreting and applying natural resource related legislation and policy in BC.
  • Experience preparing and submitting professional documents (e.g., briefing notes, information notes, early-warning notes, minister response letters).
  • Experience in choice theory (Human Dimensions) as applied to First Nations relations and wildlife management.
  • Experience with habitat and/or population models.
  • Master of Science or higher in biological sciences or a related field
Provisos:
  • Valid B.C. driver’s licence.
  • Meet safety standards of Work Safe BC.
  • May require the operation of a variety of equipment.
  • Conducts field work which may include the following: travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to carry equipment and supplies in difficult terrain.

If you are not yet registered with the CAB, please explain how you are immediately eligible (i.e. currently a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) member in good standing in another Canadian jurisdiction and can immediately transfer to the CAB).
