The recruitment range for this position is: $107,800.20 - $137,500.00 annually. The starting salary for this position will be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience and subject to the requirements of the Management Compensation and Classification Framework (MCCF).

Government Communications and Public Engagement (GCPE) is a dynamic, progressive and innovative organization that supports external communication of government in its ongoing dialogue with British Columbians. GCPE leads and coordinates government communications through its three divisions: Strategic Communications, Corporate Priorities and Communications Operations.

The Strategic Communications division acts as an internal creative agency to government and provides a variety of specialized communications support services to all ministries, as required, including advertising and marketing services, graphic design, social media and digital services.

Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic Communications, the Executive Director, Creative Strategy, provides strategic leadership within the Strategic Communications Division to ensure GCPE is raising public awareness of BC Government priorities, policies and programs using the Government of BC’s owned, paid and shared channels. This position provides oversight and leads the Graphics, Marketing and Digital Communications units, and ensures consistency and alignment of these teams and their communications products.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • Post-secondary degree in a related field such as communications, journalism, public relations, public policy, political science, writing, English, or a communications-related discipline AND five (5) years *related experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
    • Related experience must include any three (3) of the following:
    • Experience in leading communications planning and implementation related to:
      • media or public relations;
      • issues management;
      • communications strategy development and implementation;
      • professional writing; and
      • digital communications.
    • Experience establishing collaborative relationships with senior leaders across government.
    • Experience leading organizational change associated with implementation.
    • Experience leading procurement, contract and financial management within the BC Public Service.
    • Experience in facilitating and leading discussions and planning with large, diverse groups with differing views and priorities.
    • Experience in the preparation of strategic briefing materials for senior executive.

Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:

  • More than five (5) years of related senior leadership experience.
  • Experience dealing with politically sensitive and/or significant issues.
