Job Summary

The Human Rights Tribunal is an independent quasi-judicial Tribunal established by the Human Rights Code (“Code”) to provide dispute resolution services in human rights matters. The Tribunal receives, mediates, and adjudicates complaints in human rights matters.

The Director of People, Culture and Business Operations has a broad scope of accountabilities to support the delivery of the Tribunal’s mandate within its Operations Department. Specifically, the role provides strategic leadership and support to the Registrar and Chair for the planning and implementation of progressive human resources policies and programs, provides oversight for the delivery of financial management services, and oversees business operations in the areas of Privacy and Freedom of Information, and Information Technology. In addition to strategic leadership, the Director is actively involved in day-to-day human resource management activities to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of these services.

As a member of the Tribunal’s leadership team, the Director contributes to the planning of strategic priorities and organizational development and provides expert advise and guidance to ensure the organization has the human resource capacity to meet its current and future goals and objectives. The Director provides leadership to a diverse team that supports the financial management, human resource administration, operations, processing of Freedom Of Information requests, information technology services as well as proofing and issuing communications regarding the Tribunal’s formal decisions.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, organizational development, business administration or a related field.*
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in:
    • providing advice to executives and senior managers on human resource management policy and practices and on a wide range of human resource matters
    • working with labour and employment laws, with sound understanding of human rights and workers’ compensation issues
    • leading, developing and implementing programs and projects in a complex environment including successfully implementing innovative human resource management programs
    • business and strategic planning
    • championing and leading organizational change initiatives
    • providing oversight for financial operations including capital and operational budget development
    • successfully leading a diverse team
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation
  • Master’s degree in a related field
  • Experience working in a legal or government environment.
  • Experience in a high-volume workplace

Flexible work options may be available; this position may be able to work up to 3 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
