Purpose:

Trade Floor Supervision is mandated to reduce the regulatory and operational risks associated to the sales and trading function within Canada. This is accomplished by monitoring daily, weekly and monthly trading of equity, fixed income and derivative products on behalf of the desk heads and following up directly with traders and sales personnel. The group monitors communications based on policy and guidelines established by the desk heads which includes electronic and vocal methods. The group acts as liaison between desk heads and compliance and provides support for the compliance functions locally.


The incumbent is responsible for managing the Registration and Continuing Education obligations of the Broker Dealer along with other administrative duties that may arise in the Trade Floor Supervision division. Additionally the incumbent will be mandated to manage the reporting functions of the department and ensure that all systems and business users receive necessary reporting on a regular basis. The primary role of the position is to ensure that all sales and trading of securities by Scotia GBM personnel is done by registered personnel only. This position works closely with the Director of Trade Floor Supervision and may also need to interact from time to time with the senior management of GBM and with GBM sales & trading personnel.

  • Responsible for training and development of new and existing team members on technology and procedures associated to the role
  • Provide support to the Director, Trade Floor Supervision, who has a delegated mandate, from the Business Units within the Broker Dealer. Propose supervisory procedures or suitable changes in concert with Director of Trade Floor Supervision TFS.
  • Review staffing changes using the HR report and ensure that Registrations are kept up to date and any deficiencies logged and followed up.
  • Work with other support functions to reconcile both Registration Records and Continuing Education Requirements (“CE”) and follow up with registered personnel to ensure compliance.
  • Report completion of CE to our self-regulatory organization.
  • Support the department in providing Management Reporting through current and legacy systems.
  • Provide back-up and support to TFS team where required with regard to reviewing and authorizing personal trades and any other daily tasks that may require attention.
  • Work with other Internal Control team members to assist in any reconciliations of Access records for the Toronto, Calgary, Montreal and Vancouver offices.
  • Maintain close working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
  • Evaluate and review ongoing effectiveness of implemented policies and identify/remediate any gaps.
  • Participate as requested by the Director of TFS to lead or participate in special projects.
  • Proactively identify operational risk/control deficiencies in the business and raise any concerns to Director of TFS.



Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have:

  • CSC, CPH, Traders training course, Options licensing course and Derivative licensing course.
  • Must be able to obtain US licensing with FINRA (SIE, Series 7 & 24)
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or relevant education background
  • Completion of the CFA or MBA would be desirable.
  • Knowledge of global capital markets and strong knowledge of fixed income and derivative products is necessary.
  • Knowledge of marketplace rules for fixed income and derivatives and strong knowledge of UMIR rulebook and applicable National Instruments relevant to GBM business lines.
  • Working knowledge of systems such as Excel and Access would be an asset.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in determination and escalation of issues involving material risk
  • Working proficiency in English and French language skills is required


Work Arrangement

This position is currently a hybrid role, with the expectation that you will work at least 3 days a week in the office. Please note that this is subject to change based on the needs of the business.
