This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions.
Responsibilities
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Assistant Unit Supervisor reports to the Administrator and is responsible for the total care of the residents, which includes supervision of Residential Care Workers. In the absence of the Administrator the Recreation staff and Environmental Services staff will also report to the LPN Assistant Unit Supervisor. The incumbent maintains an effective relationship with residents, employees, other departments, families and the general public, in providing care to the residents. The LPN Assistant Unit Supervisor must be willing to attend designated seminars and meetings pertaining to job related subjects and willing to continue their education to uphold the LPN scope of practice.
Qualifications
- Currently registered as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the Province of Nova Scotia. NSCN required
- Able to function within the full LPN Scope of Practice
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing (bilingual an asset)
- Demonstrates ability to work well with others; be flexible, positive and maintain an objective approach; be self-directed and participate in problem solving using sound judgment
- Ability to think critically, be decisive with crisis situations, may deal with situations requiring physical restraint
- Willing and able to participate in recreational activities with the residents.
- Well organized with the ability to initiate workload and capable of working independently.
- Minimum one year previous supervisory experience.
- Must have or be willing to take CPR certification.
- Recent mental health experience and/or previous experience with persons having intellectual / physical disabilities.
- Ability to work within a team environment and to effectively contribute to resident/client planning process in a leadership role.
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.
- Successful Applicants are required to provide a criminal record check (including Vulnerable Sector Search) to People Services before starting employment and assume any additional costs as a condition of employment.

Salary Information
$25.6836 - $28.1439 hourly
