Your Opportunity:Under the supervision of the Manager, the Assistant Head Nurse (AHN) is responsible for the day-to-day unit operation including direct supervision of unit staff. This role interacts with physicians, nursing staff, other unit staff, and other departments and interdisciplinary team members on a daily basis. The position facilitates and fosters interdisciplinary participation in patient care activities and coaches, mentors, motivates and empowers clinical staff. The AHN assists in the integration of skills and knowledge for staff on the unit, supports quality improvement/education initiatives and enhances patient safety. The AHN creates a climate of interdepartmental respect and collaboration and adheres and models the Alberta Health Services (AHS) mission, and values.Description:As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. Minimum 3 years in a current Charge Nurse Role. Excellent computer skills working with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Netcare, Connect Care and Insite. Demonstrated leadership, professionalism, problem solving and communication skills, including the ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Competence in relevant technical nursing skills and a willingness to learn new skills as required. Demonstrated ongoing responsibility for maintaining own continuing competence through professional development activities. Ability to communicate findings in a concise and accurate manner. Demonstrated excellent time management, assessment, organizational and patient care skills. Exceptional ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team and to request and accept direction as required. Demonstrated experience and ability to work with an adult client population. Demonstration of critical thinking skills are essential, within scope of practice, including clinical judgement and problem-solving skills. Ability to initiate and effectively implement change is required. Demonstrated teaching abilities, strong decision-making, assessment, and intervention skills.Preferred Qualifications:Baccalaureate in Nursing preferred, however relevant Nursing/experience will be considered. Current NRP certification an asset. Communication, leadership, and conflict resolution courses are an asset.
