O’Neill Auto Group is seeking a motivated, career-oriented individual for the position of Assistant Controller at our Nissan Mount Pearl location.

As an Assistant Controller with O’Neill Auto Group, you are responsible for various tasks, including supporting accounting management, payroll, formulating internal controls and policies, preparing financial statements, managing journal entries, assisting in budgeting and forecasting, and reviewing accounting information for accuracy. They utilize accounting software, analyze data, and contribute to the financial reporting and control processes of the company.

Responsibilities

As the Assistant Controller, you report to the Controller and will assist in all areas including but not limited to:

  • Works under strict deadlines to assist with the preparation and interpretation of monthly financial statements according to manufacturer’s guidelines.
  • Assists in the preparation of short- and long-term financial forecasts and budgets for the group.
  • Prepares and analyzes monthly expense variances and initiates corrective actions when needed.
  • Ensures that all manufacturer accounts, including warranty claims, rebates, interest protection and co-op advertising are current and accurate.
  • Balance Sheet account reconciliations.
  • Maintains an effective cash management system.
  • Reviews the general ledger and scheduled accounts. Notes any unusual entries and investigations.
  • Reviews the reconciliation of general ledger accounts with outside sources to ensure proper bank reconciliation, reserve accounts, factory payable and floor plan payable.
  • Reviews and approves weekly payroll.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable government finance regulations, including filing and/or maintaining of required forms, payroll taxes and deposits, income taxes, retirement plan records etc.
  • Oversees office and accounting staff as directed by the Controller including providing appropriate training and guidance.
  • Main point of contact for annual external audit
  • Ensures that all office personnel are using proper accounting procedures and maintaining accurate working papers.
  • Continually strives to improve data integrity and information reporting throughout the dealership and other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements and Skills:

  • Proven experience as assistant controller or other similar position.
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulations.
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial processes (budgeting, financial closure, reporting etc.)
  • Understanding of data analysis and forecasting.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (especially excel) and accounting software.
  • Well-organized with ability to prioritize, excellent communication and interpersonal skills and attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
  • Post Secondary education with a focus in accounting.
  • Professional certification (CPAor working towards certification) is an asset.
  • Experience with CDK is an asset.
