Discover Montessori School is a non-profit independent school and licensed childcare facility. We follow the educational model and philosophy envisioned by Dr. Maria Montessori, with a deep emphasis on personal and collective responsibility for the Earth and for each other. Within a strong academic framework, we teach the interconnectedness of all subjects, the importance of community, and work toward developing Peace through mutual respect, compassion, and understanding. Our programs offer experiential, hands-on learning for preschool and grade school students starting at age three through grade 9 equivalent at age fifteen. We deeply value and foster each child’s growing independence and we work together with families to support the unique development of each student as they progress at their own pace. Discover Montessori School is now growing its certified zero-carbon Farm School program, which will offer dedicated classroom gardens, farm animals, fish bearing streams, wild spaces, fields, a working organic market garden, an orchard, and more on a beautiful 20-acre farm.

Job Duties:

• Lead activities for children aged 3 to 6 years old in accordance with AMI Montessori training and learning philosophies as well as curricular and environmental standards established by the Discover Montessori Society’s administration and Board.
• Plan, prepare, and maintain all classroom areas and activities, and ensure that children arrive each day to a clean, safe, and well-prepared Montessori learning environment.
• Regularly observe and review children’s progress, teaching priorities, and classroom concerns, and complete Montessori records.
• Supervise and coordinate activities of assistants in the classroom.
• Maintain appropriate professional relationships with families, staff, and volunteers.
• Job Requirements:
• At least 3 years of experience as an early childhood educator in the Montessori system.
• Eligible to meet British Columbia licensing requirements.
• Primary (3-6) Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) Diploma.
• Bachelor’s Degree.
• First aid certification required.
