Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Lead, Advisory Council Relations, the Advisory Council Advisor plays a key role in ensuring three Health Advisory Councils (HACs) meet their Bylaw requirements and are supported in providing advice and feedback to Alberta Health Services. The True North, Lesser Slave Lake, and Peace HACs are comprised of up to 15 AHS volunteers per Council who represent the diversity of their Council area. Each Council holds two public meetings and two public engagement events per year. The Advisor is responsible for working with a diverse range of both internal and external stakeholders in guiding Council work and supporting Council activities. Stakeholder relations is a key element of the Advisor role. Advisors work to ensure that the voices of the community are included in health system planning, and foster strong linkages between Council members and Alberta Health Services’ leadership. Advisors lead the planning and implementation of two public Council meetings per year and two community engagement events, from brainstorming through to execution and logistics (e.g. catering, note-taking). Advisors work collaboratively with AHS leaders and Council members to ensure alignment between Council and AHS priorities, and may sometimes liaise with local community leaders (e.g. elected officials, community health partners). They welcome media who may be present at public meetings and facilitate connections between media and the Council Chairs. Travel within Alberta is required for approximately six to twelve meetings per year. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Description:

Partnering with, and guiding the work of, three North Zone Health Advisory Councils (up to 45 public community volunteers). Leading Councils through annual work plan development process. Leading the development of Annual Reports. Tracking Council activities and managing issues that arise in collaboration with the Lead, Advisory Council Relations. Leading Council recruitment. Planning and executing six public meetings per year (two per Council). Develop agendas and design community- based events in collaboration with Council Chairs and AHS leads. Book meeting rooms/ Zoom. Prepare meeting packages, meeting invitations, and public meeting summaries. Arrange catering for in-person meetings. Work closely with AHS leaders to ensure follow-up on meeting action items. Tracking meeting attendees and ensure follow-up from AHS departments who engage Councils. Planning additional working meetings as needed in-person or virtually (e.g. Zoom).

Required Qualifications:

A certificate or diploma in communications, public relations, community development or related field. Background in community or stakeholder engagement, IAP2 training preferred. A minimum of three years of public participation, communications, or community engagement experience. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Experience in a related role in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity considered an asset.
