Your Opportunity:

Under the supervision of the Health Information Management Team Lead, the Administrative Support / Switchboard Operator position is responsible for telecommunication functions that support patients, the public and staff accesses to services throughout Alberta Health Services. The switchboard team offers this service using various technologies including a computerized multiline call system and nurse call responder. This position includes taking payments and other clerical duties as assigned. The successful incumbent is responsible for announcements of hospital emergency codes and connecting of on call physicians, providers and general inquiries. This fast paced opportunity is looking for an incumbent who is able to exercise good judgment and initiative and able to work with a high degree of independence, confidentiality and accuracy.

As an Administrative Support III, you will require advanced administrative or specialized skills and knowledge to support complex procedures, practices and initiatives within a department or program.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Medical terminology certificate is required for this position. Typing 40 wpm is also a requirement (corrected for errors). Test for typing will be administered. Must possess and demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work under little supervision and work effectively in a team environment. Applicant must be able to work under pressure with strong detail to accuracy. Also must be able to prioritize and organize work in a fast paced environment. Demonstrated ability to interact in a positive manner. Must have a proven record of maintaining privacy with sensitive information and situations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Medical Office Assistant or Unit Clerk certificate is preferred. Multi-line switchboard experience is also preferred.
