Job DescriptionAddictions Counsellor I, Permanent Full-Time

Definition Of Work

The Addictions Counsellor I is a specialized clinical position that provides addictions and concurrent treatment services to individuals and/or family members. The successful candidate will be an integral member of an interdisciplinary team. This position reports to the Regional Manager of Mental Health and Addictions Services. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive assessment, treatment, and follow up services in the context of an integrated mental health and addictions team process. The incumbent must have considerable knowledge of Best Practice Standards in the area of addictions and concurrent disorders. The successful candidate provides referral and follow up for clients to outside agencies both within and outside of the province; accepts referrals from various providers; provides necessary liaison pertaining to treatment planning; consults with other professionals and community groups regarding programming and treatment issues and supports self-help, consumer, and caregiver initiatives. The Addictions Counsellor I will be expected to provide "Door Ways" services as required. The incumbent will provide preventive services based on a

population health approach. The successful candidate will be committed to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and client/patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Social Work Degree, Masters in Clinical Psychology or Graduates Degree in a Clinical Discipline.
  • Eligibility for registration with a professional regulatory body.
  • 2 years current experience (within the last 5 years) in an addictions and/or mental health setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of professional addictions and concurrent disorder, Best Practice Standards as it relates to assessment, treatment, planning, counselling, and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated ability in skill assessment, interviewing and crisis intervention techniques, social work programming, and delivery methods.
  • Demonstrated analytical, as well as, oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated independence, initiative, and ability to work with others.
  • Use of a private vehicle and valid driver license are a condition of employment.
  • Consistent demonstration of Central Health’s corporate values; Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Stewardship and Quality
  • Satisfactory Record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
  • A satisfactory certificate of conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.
Hours of Work: 75 hours biweekly (Shift work may be required)

Salary: CG-39 ($37.20-$41.63)
