As an Actuarial Consultant, you are energized by understanding client needs and applying your skills and knowledge in order to solve client problems as well as grow client relationships. Being a key member of your client teams, you help to ensure delivery of high quality work that meets specific client needs. You build strong relationships with both external and internal clients, tackling new challenges everyday with the guidance and expertise of seasoned colleagues who care. As would be expected of an actuary, you have a passion for numbers, an eye for detail and a high level of accuracy in preparing and reviewing calculations.
Responsibilities:
  • Support, supervise and validate the process of actuarial valuations for funding and accounting purposes.
  • Participate in various work related to the administration of pension plans.
  • Collaborate in the design of pension plans.
  • Attend meetings, drafts reports, presentations, and plan materials for clients.
  • Assist with special projects and tasks, as required.
  • As a key member of client teams, ensure delivery of high-quality work that meets legislative requirements and client needs.
  • Build and maintain excellent relations with clients and internal colleagues.
  • Work with current and prospective clients to grow business.
  • Act as a mentor to junior team members, supporting their growth and development.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Contribute to internal development projects.
Succeeding as a Consultant will require the following core qualifications and skills:
  • University degree in actuarial mathematics or actuarial science
  • Have FCIA designation or be in the process of obtaining it
  • 5–10 years of experience in pension plan consulting
  • In-depth, detailed knowledge of actuarial valuation process
  • Very good knowledge of pension plan legislation and actuarial standards of practice
  • Combination of excellent analytical and mathematical skills with strong work ethic
  • Exceptional client focus with strong professional acumen
  • Have excellent communication skills (oral and written) and ease in developing good interpersonal relationships
  • Very good organizational skills
  • Dedicated team player, who demonstrates initiative and independence
  • Master the Microsoft Office suite
