1.0 FTE in the area of Online Learning DL Program Secondary Teacher (Humanities/Career Ed 11/12)

Schedule to be determined in consultation with the Principal.

This is a temporary contract position.

This position is effective as soon as possible and will continue until June 28, 2024 or upon the return of the incumbent, whichever comes first.

While all applicants will be considered, preference will be given to qualified applicants who self-declare Indigenous ancestry.

The starting annual salary for a school teacher position ranges from $58,000 to $110,000, with placement on the range based on the length of service and qualifications in accordance in accordance with the collective agreement. Positions of Special Responsibility receive an additional pay allowance in accordance with the collective agreement based on the levels 1, 2, or 3.

Distributed Learning/vLearn Program Specialist Teacher

As part of SD No. 22’s Distributed Learning vLearn program the applicant must have a working knowledge of the Curriculum directions, teaching knowledge as it relates to B.C. Distributed Learning Policies, Best Practices and Standards, skill and expertise in teaching online in specific vLearn subject areas, fluency in current assessment for learning practices as well as an understanding of competency based assessment. An ability to develop, teach and support an individualized and comprehensive Student Learning Plan leading to graduation is required. Demonstrated skills in teaching and communicating with students, parents and educational colleagues within a Distributed Learning School and Learning Management System are preferred.

The successful applicant will be very skilled in setting up and using technology as a medium for teaching at a distance.

Additional Skills and attributes required will include:
Two years successful online teaching experience in a distributed learning school and a Graduate degree or diploma focused in online teaching from a recognized post-secondary online teaching specialist program such as Thompson Rivers University, Vancouver Island University, University of Calgary, or Athabasca University, UBCO.

Successful completion of the Knowplace.ca or equivalent Intermediate training courses in the use of the current Moodle Learning Management System for online teaching and online curriculum development.

training and teaching experience in using the current Zoom software to teach and support individual and groups of students online.

Experience creating educational media.

Current HTML coding knowledge.

Familiarity with WCLN Course media and BCDL Quality Standards.

Successful teaching experience in supporting students who find learning a challenge.

A minimum of 3 years successful classroom teaching experience.

Experience using a wide variety of web resources and tools to support online learning.

A problem solving aptitude conducive to implementing online learning solutions.

A life long learner.

Applicants with successful classroom experience, online teaching specialist training, experience teaching and developing on-line curriculum, who possess a passion for creating new opportunities for their students and who like to push the edges of technology and its benefit to students and learning will be given primary consideration.
